A few years ago, I posted a thread about Amazon’s Astro robot. Understandably, I was totally creeped out (as were a lot of you here)
Well, fast forward 5 yrs…and we are at the AI-powered emotional companion stage. This time it’s by CASIO- the guys who are best known for their watches.
I caught this video on YouTube this weekend & I had to come on here to share it- because I am LEGIT creeped out. You gotta see this.
To me this feels like it’s basically a hybrid of a Tamagotchi + therapy plush + AI assistant …BUT intentionally stripped down to feel more alive than functional. Personally, it kind of looks like a creepy Guinea pig.
What makes it feel off isn’t just that it’s “AI,” it’s what kind of role it’s trying to take in your life.
The object has no face, just eyes. Soft body. Breathing. Hmmmmmm…I don’t know.
My first take was… It’s not horror-movie creepy. It’s quietly existential creepy.
The kind where you go: Wait… is this helping me connect… or helping me avoid connecting?
