Does anyone know roughly how much it will cost? Because I want to buy the Mudita Kompakt 1.6 but if the new one is with price close to the old one, I will definitely buy the 2.0
1.6 and 2.0 are just system software versions - it’s the same phone and it doesn’t cost anything to update the software.
There are all AMAZING updates and I am glad I am back to the Kompakt, mine is scheduled to arrive Weds, very excited!
It finally has a lot of the changes I was looking for. Great job Mudita team ![]()
Please let us know whether yours arrives with MuditaOS K 1.5 OR with 1.6. Meanwhile, I hope that Mudita can deploy the hotfix for 1.6 soon.
Received mine on Friday direct from Mudita on 1.0…
That’s a shame, as my impression from a post by @urszula was that Mudita endeavors to ship the Kompakt with the latest or next-to-latest MuditaOS K.
Is your Kompakt for North America (NAM) OR for the rest of the world (GLOBAL)?
I am super excited to see rollout of 2.0!! It’s awesome to watch this phone become more usable in real time. Also I’m very glad to see Mudita so receptive to community feedback despite the original intended use of the phone. I respect the original concept of cutting off from the digital world, and enjoy and am elated by the hardware level cutoff switch. However, use of dependable Kompaktcalendar, CalmMaps, and E-ink bro means I don’t have to use much other tech than my phone. (On the Mudita, that’s a good thing). Without the community made apps I would not be able to be productive and would have to rely more heavily on my computer. For my Mudita use, I want too use it as much as possible for my day to day because it means I’m not in a ecosystem with more lights and distractions. My Mudita use is largely controlled and measured due to the nature of the device. I like that Mudita is positioning itself to be used in two different ways: Like my use where I WANT to be on my phone because it means that is the technology I happily reach for and use, or, the use case for someone really trying the dumb phone thing and going out into the world with really no distractions. User gets to pick! Also launcher in their Autumn rollout teaser looks intriguing. I am excited to revamp my Kompakt experience again! I love this phone! I hated my Samsung! Running with a Kompakt is a huge win for simplicity and independence! Thank you developers!
My two cents for 2.0: InkApps should have to be sideloded or opted in to have it installed on the phone. I would prefer to not have the app installed when the apps I need are already on my device. At least give me the option to uninstall it.
North American model
I just reached out to our team about this & I’m waiting for a response.
Genuinely curious and I don’t mean this in a hostile way, but what’s the big deal if it ships with older firmware? It takes 10 minutes to update.
Thank you for the feedback. Your point about InkApps is valid. I’ll ask our team if InkApps could be optional or at least removable.
@ed_knight490 It all depends on the WiFi speed that the user has. We’ve had reports that for some users, to go one-by-one from 1.0 to 1.6 could take a significant amount of time.
not just wifi speed, but you have to do each update individually. it took me quite some time to be honest just becausee each individual update had to occur separately.
We totally hear you. This is a valid concern. Our team is currently looking into making it possible to update directly to the most recent update.
I know it will not solve the current situation, where new devices arriving after purchase have to be updated a few times to reach the latest version of Mudita OS K. But once 2.0 goes public, the new phones will be sold with version 2.0 of the software.
Logistics-wise, it is difficult for us to implement the latest software version every time a new Mudita OS K release comes out, but for 2.0 we made that decision, for both Global and NA versions.
To avoid questions and confusion, it will be clearly marked on our e-commerce whether the device being ordered comes with the new version of the software.
Yeah it was annoying the 40 mins of getting the phone last week was updating it lol. All good though it was worth the wait!. Michal I hope you guys consider an option to disable text messaging. I think this is very important when we are driving. A lot of us will connect the Kompakt via blue tooth to our vehicles to listen to music and podcasts and when we see a text notifcation visible we are very likely to check the message while we are driving which is not safe. Although we all try not to do this while we are driving if we are being honest with outselves many of us do. I also just like being able to make my phone just a phone. This is the only feature I love on the light phone you can disable text messaging completely by toggling a switch and then turn it back on and you will get all your messages. Hoping you consider this in future updates
Really liking the device. However, having to go through each software update individually is taking hours. Not necessarily the way I wanted to spend my evening. Please fix this for future customers. Good work otherwise though!
These are the updates I have been hoping for and the fact that a lot of the things we were doing to “hack” the Mudita to give us these features are going to be first party is amazing.
Thank you for listening to the community and doing this. I am excited about these additions and it’s awesome you are working with the community to include some E-Ink focused apps. We have some great users in the community making great tools and having the company acknowledge them in first part software is amazing.
I’d love to still have a bit more Android-like control and access to being able to use certain tools and apps that are required for “android”. I dont know if that’s just up to me to hack microG on the device myself, but I have been using the SLEKE phone now for a while and they ship their de-googled phone with microG already installed. Would be cool if I could download some of the apps I can’t get on Mudita now because of the lack of Google accounts
Anyways, very excited by this. Will be looking for the update soon.
MicroG is on our readar. But we need more time to come with first party solution with that :-/
