Can the mudita kompakt block unknown callers?
In this same vein, does the Kompakt have in-built spam/robo call blocking?
Yes. I confirmed this on my Kompakt: Phone > Settings > Call Blocking > Block hidden numbers & Block unrecognized numbers
thank you!
What happens if you block unrecognized numbers? Are they sent to voicemail? And do you receive the voicemail message then? By default I donât pick up when I donât know the number. If itâs really important, theyâll leave a message. Marketeers or similar never do that.
I just tested this by calling my Kompakt from what my Kompakt would treat as an unrecognized number (because it is not in the contacts list on my Kompakt).
- A black, square icon with a telephone receiver inside the square appeared in the status bar at the top of the screen and then quickly disappeared.
- As the caller, I almost immediately heard the voicemail prompt.
- As the caller, I left a voicemail message and hung up.
- The Kompakt played its notification sound.
BUTâŚ
- No missed-call tally dot appeared on the Phone appâs icon on the home page!
- The âRecentsâ tab within the Phone app did NOT show the number of that incoming call â as if that incoming call never occurred.
- I saw no indication that I had voicemail waiting for me.
- Dialing [1] to access my voicemail â on Mint Mobile (part of T-Mobile USA) â failed with an alert from T-Mobile about an invalid MMI code.
@urszula: Are these âBUTâ behaviors working as designed? They seem to be bugs to me.
You should see no âmissed-callâ dot, thatâs normal behavior. But I donât know whether or not the call should pop up in the recent calls as âblockedâ.
Donât you receive an sms from your provider that you have a voicemail, though?
No. My provider cannot text me about voicemail.
I was expecting the call to appear under the Kompaktâs Phone appâs âRecentsâ tab, given that my also-minimalist, also-AOSP-based Sunbeam Wireless flip-phone does show me the telephone numbers of the blocked calls that rang my flip-phone.
Does the sunbeam block unknown callers?
It can be set to block calls from those not in the contacts list.
This is not available in Mudita Kompakt- but you can block unknown numbers.
@nilss Let me clarify this first: (This is how itâs done on MY END) Different networks might handle things differently- so check with your network provider.
- Blocked calls (including from unknown/private numbers) do not get routed to voicemail.
Mudita Kompakt treats them as completely rejected, meaning they donât trigger voicemail forwarding unless your carrier handles it differently on the network level. (This is not something Kompakt can control) - Since the blocking is done locally on the device, and not through your carrier, voicemail is bypassed for those numbers and they wonât be able to leave a message.
@kirkmahoneyphd Can you clarify if this is for BLOCKED numbers or just in general?
@urszula, the âBUTâŚâ bullet-point list applies to what Mudita calls an âunrecognisedâ number. The number from which I called my Kompakt WAS NOT âhiddenâ but WAS âunrecognisedâ.
@kirkmahoneyphd I responded to this here:
Another way we could get what @kirkmahoneyphd is asking for would be an option to silence unkown numbers and just not play the ringtone or vibrate. This would still show them in recents and potentially voicemail. This could be added along side the ability to customize ringtones for individual contacts.
@urszula, allow me to ask part of what I was asking in another way:
- Is it Muditaâs design philosophy that the telephone number associated with a blocked call NOT appear in the âRecentsâ tab of the Kompakt Phone app?
I ask this question because other cellphones that I have â both Google Android and deGoogled â do show that telephone number in their âRecentsâ tab. This is convenient because it lets me see whether an incoming call should NOT have been blocked. And, I know that the Kompakt does see that telephone number, given that the Kompakt temporarily flashes an icon in the status bar to indicate that a call was coming in but got blocked.
@kirkmahoneyphd Itâs all clear now. Even though the call was blocked- youâd like to know that it called & see the call on the log list? Is that correct?
@urszula: That is correct. Here is how the entry for a blocked call looks on the Sunbeam Wireless F1 Orchid (with Sunbeam using âCall Logâ where Mudita uses âRecentsâ):
