Best alternative keyboards? (not gboard)

Without knowing what data gboard specifically collects (if any) it isn’t really possible to say how they would know your identity. If it isn’t reporting anything then there’s nothing to correlate. On the other hand, keyboards are in a prime position to know everything that you do, every time you type an email, phone number, username, password, website, search query, all of it has potential to be recorded by the keyboard. I actually don’t think Google is collecting every letter like that, it’s just an extreme example of what is possible. Until I have a chance to dig into it more then it is just speculation, but since Google’s entire business model is data collection I’ll default to something else.

Honestly its very depressing thinking even when you think you are FREE, you are not entirely certain. I did add back on futo keyboard and I am using that, I deleted spotify too off the kompakt and I am thinking of deleting that account, I don’t pay for it but they must be collecting and selling data regardless, honestly I don’t trust any of these big name companies, they got us all hook this crap we think we need in our lives all the while they are snooping on and selling our data, it is DISGUSTING

I am going to use Atennapod , I have permanently deleted my spotify account, I am going to close my google account permanently as well, I had held onto to it for google photoes and the calendar I was syncing to my light phone 2, but I can save the photos to a SD card, honestly after watching that doc I want NOTHING to do with google ever again

Try taking a bit of time to snoop around the FUTO keyboard menu, there’s kinda a lot of options and you can make it as cluttered or minimal as you’d like. I know spending time on something like this kinda defeats the purpose of the phone but it is mostly a set-and-forget type of thing, not something that needs constant tweaking.

Well among other things, unless you are using a VPN they are tracking your IP and whatever other information the app sends back. Some companies spend a lot of money on analytics that will looks at isolated pieces of information and assemble them to identify the user.

I really dig the voice to text feature on a keyboard and while i tried it on FUTO I didn’t succeed to make a french voice to text feature working, anyone knows how to make it work? (only working on the Gboard keyboard rn, but i would like to delete the google one, FUTO seemed nice…)

Sorry, that’s one feature I rarely use and most of the French words I know are just food related so unfortunately I’m not able to help out much when it comes to this.

I’m just gonna throw in my two cents.

I personally use ThumbKey GitHub - dessalines/thumb-key: A privacy-conscious Android keyboard made for your thumbs
I started using it on my old phone and then decided to use it on this phone too. And I have to say, I much prefer it to a QWERTY keyboard, especially on an E-ink device with such a small screen. They buttons are way easier to press and I can type way faster. It has a very steep learning curve, but once you get it the difference is night and day.

I prefer to use the split-key keyboard setup they have with a lot of customization. I have attached my keyboard backup if anyone would like to import it to their phone. Filen

For voice texting I just use FUTO Voice. Unfortunately, it is a little bit slow because the Kompakt has some pretty lightweight hardware.
