Battery low signal led to soon :)

Hi there, I find it good that devices tell me when their battery is running low. But on the mudita kompakt this could shift a little bit. I mean my device is on 1 Day Left off battery and to my amusing it stressed me just a few seconds. Cause you know you are used to dealing with low battery right on time… Not with the kompakt…you still got only a FULL DAY left

So maybe, just maybe but the little red dot on when you have to really charge the device in the next few hours and not while you still have a whole day left?

Preferably one could disable this entirely, a simple low battery icon on the lock screen would ideally suffice, I never quite understood the idea of turning ON an LED when a device is low on battery - granted it’s probably minimal but an e-ink screen is made to display information with no energy draw once set?

I believe that the LED light indicating low battery is set to turn on when the battery falls below 20%. According to several sources, it is also good to keep the battery within the range of 20-80% to avoid excessive wear. The LED also turns green when you charge and the battery is charged over 80%.I think this is a good thing.

Hi mine charges at the moment and is about 34% “full” but the led stays red. So maybe if your are charging the device it needs to be at a higher threshold… I just found it funny that a low battery means 1 day left instead of I will be off in 10 minutes if you don´t charge me

I agree that the low battery light comes on too soon. It’s one of the jarring detail about the phone. If it could come on when you have only an hour or two left, that would be ideal!

@sping I will pass this on to the team. From what I remember, it’s supposed to go on at 20%, but @tobi mentioned it stays on at 34%, so I will ask the team to clarify this for me.

Thank you! To be clear, in my opinion, the battery light could come on much later. Potentially when you have an hour or two of battery life left. One of my favorite parts of the phone thus far is how little I have to charge it. I don’t mind being reminded that the battery is low, but when I have basically a full days worth of battery left, having that red dot staring at me all day isn’t ideal. I’ve actually covered it with a small black sticker at this point.

@sping I totally get it. 20% battery on Mudita Kompakt can mean 2 or 3 more days, if we’re being honest

@urszula it has probably already been asked, but could you see if the team could create an option in the settings to turn the red light off? I mean at 18% I still have over a day left. It would be a bit annoying to need to use it for so long with the light on! Thank you

@timonstera Our team is aware of this (that people would like this red light to go away). However, it actually makes a lot of sense when you think about it. In general, batteries tend to perform best when they’re kept above 20%. For anyone who values long-term battery health, it’s a good idea not to let the charge drop too much lower than that.

While the Kompakt can still last a full day at 20%, it’s understandable that some people might choose to recharge around that point. It’s all about taking care of your device so it can take care of you.

Thanks. I understand it is good for the health of the battery. But I’d still urge there to be an option for those who are not as concerned with optimal battery health, at least not at times when more energy is needed or if you’re away and not able to charge for some period of time. I believe we should have the option to turn it off if we need or want to use our phone below 20, at least some of the time. Also, it would be really cool to have an option to have it stop charging at 80%…if that is a possibility!

But yes, don’t get me wrong! I actually quickly grew to appreciate the light coming at 20%…I guess I was a bit shocked since I’ve never had a phone do that at 20 but it makes sense! Having the light come on as a default is appreciated imo!

I haven’t found a way to disable the LED, but if you’re comfortable with sideloading you change the threshhold to as low as 5% with ActivityManager. In the app go to “Settings” > “Settings$BatterySaverScheduleSettingsAcitivity”. Activate “Based on percentage” and then you can use the slider to whatever you want.

@urszula Just wanted to clarify a couple of things since I omitted it from my last comment and reply to you! I personally do like the light coming on at 20%! It’s a good reminder for good phone battery hygiene. I edited my reply to be a little more detailed about my thoughts and feelings about things to do with battery health optimization. It’d be cool to have an option to have it stop charging around 80%–if that’s possible!
