I have had the Kompakt since launch for North America and was very glad the last update provided more information on battery health. Even if the battery isn’t as focused on being user-replaceable, extending the life of the device to 5+ years through optimization excites me as I love this phone. The issue I have noticed is that the cycle count is showing 13, but in my time of ownership, the battery has only been depleted to 0% from 100% maybe once. Is this count just taking an average over time to provide the cycle count so that even if the phone doesn’t go from 100% all the way down to 0%, you still get some information? If so, the description in the settings can be misleading in that it shows cycle count as being just that— “how many times the battery went from full to empty”. Has anyone else experienced this? I would hope this can be fixed in future updates and still be able to provide an accurate count.
Yeah, I have noticed the same. Not sure what it is counting. My count is 7 and I have never let the battery go to 0%.
Maybe the count of the cycle is between 20% and 80%? I don’t know. But if that is the case, the phrase “from full to empty” is incorrect."
I have asked our team about this. I will come back when they respond with some feedback as to what could be happening.
Perhaps it means the equivalence of having gone from full to empty. That’d be a very strange defintion, though. Is this a Mudita thing or an AOSP ported to Mudita thing?
@paxristi I’ve followed up about this with our team.
No worries, I appreciate what the team is doing and understand what can be expected when purchasing an item like the Kompakt that is doing something original. I try to help on here becuase I like the product and I think it’s a worthwile device regardless of the little difficulties and workarounds some of us have had to find here and there.
I defintely think there are two basic people who like this phone so far:
- Open to the challenges of technology and comfortable enough with workarounds,
- Wanted a completely minimalist phone anyway and most of the features are extras.
Some people expecting their experience to be like on an Apple or Samsung phone may just be better off going to one of those mainstream brands. However, I can tell you I’ve tried both brands and still had to install apps to workaround various limitations.
When it come to how Mudita Kompakt counts battery cycles:
one charging cycle when the total charge added equals 100% of the battery’s capacity, even if it happens across multiple charging sessions.
Example:
- Charge 10% → Pause → Charge 50% → Pause → Charge 40% → Total = 100% = 1 cycle.
Partial charges beyond 100% should roll over to the next cycle count.
- Example: Charge 120% in total → 1 full cycle + 20% progress toward the next cycle.
Ahahh! I was correct. lol. Math teacher for the win.
I thought this cycle count was to get into a good habit of charging the battery, etc., but today it went from 1 to 2, even though I never went either empty or full.
Apparently the explanation is just s̶t̶u̶p̶i̶d̶ minimalist in IQ.
From what I noticed it goes one up in cycles every time I go to “full” 80%.
I’m gonna check tomorrow if it goes to 3 if I charge from 75 to 80…
Ok, after charging today Cycle count is still 2, so it works as described above.
To avoid future confusion the description could be changed to something like: “This is how many times the equivalent of the full capacity of the battery has been used up and recharged.”
I just want to jump in and say that your logo is awesome! I had a laugh ![]()
I just looked at it closely…LOL
Made my day
