I have a very interesting relationship with this company. Owned the pure tried to get it to work properly here in Canada never did but dammit I loved that phone. Owned the kompakt but it was always missing something like google calendar sync, and I never liked that it felt like a smartphone in the hand, but here I am again as I just purchased the Kompakt again lol. At a nice discounted price. This time around I bought the white kompakt because I want it to really not look like a smartphone (When was the last time you saw a white cell phone lol)
One of the main reasons I am coming back is I am excited about the next major update specifically the offline switch and what type of customizations it will have on it. I love my light phone 2 I will not lie and I did have a pre-order on the Light flip but ultimately this new update by Mudita and the fact that the Light flip will not be eink brought me back to the Kompakt. Also I realized in my new line of work down the road I may require a smarter device and if I do I DO NOT want to buy a smartphone but rather have a minimalist phone with smartphone capabilites so here I am back to the Kompakt. Just placed my order hopefully it gets here quick to Canada. Happy to be back on these forums with all the Mudita people
Also @kirkmahoneyphd should get some type of commission from Mudita because it was my conversation with him today that informed me of the latest updates that made me buy the phone again lol
Yep, still think Mudita hits the perfect balance / sweet spot.
Had a look at the new Light Flip. Texting is the second most important feature on a phone, getting back to T9 is really frustrating IMHO (even if there is voice to text). Getting rid of the e-ink screen is another big negative to me.
Only pros are 5G support (considering how annoying it is to get VoLTE certified ATM) and audio messaging (yet another feature request ! But really, I would have stuck due to cheap/used poor quality bug-ridden Nokia/HDM flip phone.
It is likely that the Kompakt is much more viable as one’s only phone.
Yeah for me I will be honest I am finishing up school and most likely my new job will require some smart functions I am thinking and the Kompakt would allow to add what I need. I still do have some absolute rules for my kompakt which is I will never have a browser on it or email. I think the only things I will sideload are the activity manager app so I can silence text messages and waze for directions, and the some calm apps like the directory and calmcast, after that I will add apps as is IF required for my job. I also ordered the white kompakt this time very excited about that, in the past I owned the pebble grey and the black but I like the look of the white does not look like a smartphone which is important to me. Excited for it to get here it shipped yesterday. I think this time as well I am not going to sell my light phone 2, I think there are times when I do like using that phone as well so I want to give myself that option. My daughter will need a first phone soon too as well so it will probably be the lp2 and then in the future if Mudita releases a new phone I can give the Kompakt to my son he is 12 and currently uses a flip phone but I think the Kompakt is a good next step for him in the future in high school
@Cardiomannisback Well, this might be one of my favorite “it’s complicated” relationship stories.
Welcome back! We genuinely appreciate that, despite the frustrations you experienced in the past, there was still something about Mudita that stayed with you. It’s wonderful to hear that the direction we’re taking with MuditaOS K 2.0 helped bring you back, especially as you look for a device that can offer a little more when needed without pulling you into the conventional smartphone experience.
The white Kompakt was an excellent choice for the full “definitely not another smartphone” effect. We hope it reaches you in Canada very soon!
And yes, we may need to have a word with our PR dept @Sharaz about @kirkmahoneyphd’s commission. He’s definitely a brand ambassador
Yeah for me the google calendar sync is a big one because I really need a working calendar that syncs automatically with my phone. Also apps like loop tracker I want to sideload because that app has helped me fix habits such as overeating (height of pandemic I was 206 pounds 6’1, now I am 181) so having intentional apps that help formulate positive change in my life is very key to me. And as mentioned I am excited about the changes to the offline mode as well as the new launcher, I am hoping fingers crossed I will be able to use that switch the ensure only calls from the people I need to come through and silence all texts and any visual notifications of texts. I really loved that option on the Pure hoping you guys bring it back some time soon
But really, I would have stuck due to cheap/used poor quality bug-ridden Nokia/HDM flip phone.
We hope it reaches you in Canada very soon!
