I recently read and enjoyed Digital Minimalism by Cal Newport, and wanted to see if anyone had any recommendations for books or podcasts perhaps that you enjoyed about minimalism in general or more specifically reducing technology use? I found Cal Newport’s book very enlightening, and really reinforced my decision to move away from smartphones in the traditional sense. From the book: “In my experience, the key to sustained success with [digital minimalism] is accepting that it’s not really about technology, but is instead more about the quality of your life.” I would definitely recommend it to anyone, it is quite short, and if you have a kompakt or other minimal devices you would probably be interested. I do! Both Indistractable by Nir Eyal and Essentialism by Greg McKeown are two excellent books about living a more focused life and prioritising the things that matter to you.
The most inspiring book about general minimalism, which mostly focuses on our physical possessions, is Goodbye Things by Fumio Sasaki. However, it’s not anything about digital minimalism, instead it’s a lot of fanboying about Apple tech, etc. I still find it very inspiring though for general minimalism and living with less stuff.
I’m listening to Cal’s podcast. The deep dive is usually the most interesting. It’s just annoying he has that many sponsored messages.
