Announcing the Mudita Mindful App Design Challenge

I am so excited to share this with our community!

It’s been over a year since we started shipping Mudita Kompakt, and almost immediately, community members began creating apps for it. I think @gezimos was one of the first (With the launcher), but I could be missing someone, so definitely chime in :blush:

Now, a year later, we have all sorts of apps made specifically for Mudita Kompakt, and honestly, it’s been incredible to watch this ecosystem grow organically through the creativity of our community.

So, now comes the fun part!

We’re inviting developers, designers, makers, tinkerers, and creative thinkers to submit their apps for the Mudita Mindful App Design Challenge.

Whether it’s a brand-new Android app or a reimagined open-source project designed for E Ink devices, this challenge is your opportunity to showcase what you can do.

There are no limits on what your idea can be. It can be something playful, practical, experimental, or deeply personal.

What matters most is how thoughtfully the experience is designed.

The challenge is built around Mudita Mindful Design (MMD), our open framework for creating clear, calm, and energy-efficient interfaces for E Ink devices. It encourages designers and developers to think beyond engagement metrics and ask a different question:

“How does this interaction affect a person over time?”

If that idea resonates with you, we’d love to see what you create (or have already created).

That seems like a tight timeline for anyone wanting to join. You’ve got basically 2 weeks to come up with something, conceptualize and bring it to life.

Dear @urszula I was thinking that more time would be better, as @thurakanda mentioned. Perhaps 45 days… June 30.

@MickeyKnox Thank you for the feedback.
We don’t require signing in to fill out this form and are not collecting e-mails automatically. As it is a collaborative project with a university, we wanted to use a tool that can be accessed by both of our institutions. Perhaps the community could suggest a privacy-focused alternative for the future for our team? We’d be happy to make a switch for future contests if the tool meets our needs.

Let’s say.. hypothetically, we’ve already built a Mudita Mindful Design App, could we submit that? Or does it have to be a previously unreleased app?

@jacobrmoss There is no timeline specified when the app was created. It just has to be created using the MMD framework & follow the guidelines :slight_smile:
