I just saw this commercial this morning while I was watching the news:
I have to admit, normally, I would just skip it & not pay attention, but something made me take notice. When I heard the line “Now TV gets to know you, who you are, what you love” immediately raised concerns about data collection and surveillance. Like HELLO privacy violation!
This is not anything new, of course. AI-driven recommendations typically require analyzing user habits, preferences, and even potentially facial recognition or voice data. Given the growing unease about Big Tech’s data practices, this could feel intrusive rather than convenient. It echoes existing fears about smart devices listening to conversations, tracking behaviors, and creating extensive consumer profiles.
The commercial suggests that the TV “gets to know you” and understands what you love. How do you feel about AI-powered devices learning from your habits? AND, more importantly: If AI-driven recommendations shape what we watch, do we risk losing control over our choices? How can we ensure we’re still making independent decisions?
Thanks for sharing, I’d never seen this but as an avid cinemagoer it’s just a matter of time, perhaps even today (I am seeing ‘Last Breath’). I am unsure as to whether I would be more concerned with data-collection or about yet another piece of technology that wants to ‘take me away from myself and the real world’.
This gives me vague memories of a movie or perhaps a Black Mirror episode where content is created purely for the individual consumer. This is totally possible with AI generated actors etc.
Two minutes of people pointing and smiling at a tv screen. Apparently the family dog needs an AI television too?
What they failed to portray in this commercial was the sheer amount of personalized ADVERTISEMENTS. You know… the whole purpose of it. Also, am i supposed to be impressed by that awful AI image of fireworks over some AI lake in Asia? Have they not learned their lesson with Roku City?
