I was wondering if someone with their Kompakt could check if it’s possible to adjust the background refresh rate either within the app itself or in the battery settings of the phone itself.
I am asking because I know a huge part of the battery drain associated with these types of messaging apps is because they are constantly pinging the internet. I am curious if there are ways to configure this. Maybe even codes that one could type into a terminal?
I know Offiline+ mode is amazing for this, but I am looking for more ways to cut back on battery usage.
This could be resolved by a implementation of MicroG installed which would allow background updates from GMS (Google’s mobile services). However, a proper installation method would require the bootloader to be unlocked which is something Mudita hasn’t given a final verdict on.
I use Whatsapp on the Kompakt and I just “force stop” the app after every usage. That way it does not send or recieve data. It’s not even that annoying of a process to do. I always open the app via App manager (no icon on the home screen because it looks ugly). That way you can open it, do whatever you need to do and close force stop it again. If you constantly want to recieve messanges, this option is not the way to go of course.
I use Molly, a fork of Signal. It has a variant of the APK that does not utilise GMS for notifications. Using this app on a pixel 7a has not impacted my battery life when in the background.
