5 Days into Mudita Life

I thought I’d share my (almost) first week with Mudita Kompakt.

I first bought this phone about 8 months ago and found I had too many roadblocks for adopting it as a primary and only device - there are enough posts on the forum to show the ‘flaws’ if you aren’t committed or ready to try and take back your life…

Fast forward to a few weeks back - overwhelmed, stressed, tapped out, etc etc with lots of notifications, disruptions, and constant pulls away from any ability to focus on a solitary task for more than ten minutes, and I decided to revisit the Kompakt as a secondary device.

Here we are after a very busy week running my business, enjoying my hobbies, being present at home and making the most of my family life.

I am still carrying my Pixel Fold 10 during the day, which has been my trusty work phone for about 7 months now, but its being left in the work vehicle or out of sight at home so I’m using it less and less, however - especially the last two days - actually I’ve found myself almost ignoring it in favour of just using the Kompakt. I setup Mudita Centre and raided a very old hard drive with a lot of my own music productions and mixes on that has been unlistened to for about a decade and loaded these on to it, I bought a personal DAB radio too and have blended use of both of these between phone calls. I’ve given my new Mudita number to less than 20 people I feel important enough to get hold of me 24-7 and the rest have been left on my business/work numbers so I can only interact with them as and when I feel the need.

My evenings have been less stressful, more focused, and more family oriented and I’ve found myself able to meditate and relax before bed for the first time in a few years - the Pixel is abandoned by 7pm with any work stuff waiting until the following morning and honestly I cannot believe how quickly I am undoing the habits that have been forming for years.

The Kompakt was taken out on a walk this morning with my family and I got a couple of average photos, but these were enough to capture the moment (I feel the lighting and shutter speed is going to take some getting used to with an active 6 year old and a 18 month old Labrador).

I’m back carrying a physical wallet for payments, which has also take some adjustment. A couple of times I’ve gone to pay with my phone and realised I was in a pickle with no actual payment method to hand and rushed back to the car, but I feel this will just be an adjustment over time too.

All in all, from someone who kicked the social media habit a few years back, but is now obsessed with responding to emails day and night instead, I am already convinced rebuying the Kompakt is a smart move for me to be able to disconnect and only jump back in when it suits me, rather than constantly giving myself more tasks to do.

My Setup:

Wired Mudita headphones
No side loaded apps
MP3’s downloaded to the device
Personal DAB radio

  • No camera yet

If you’re ready for a digital detox and need to escape the noise, order a Kompakt now. My friends are already starting to pay attention

Thanks for this detailed review & for sharing your experience @chrisrose83

One of the most interesting things about reading Mudita Kompakt user stories is how quickly small changes can lead to meaningful shifts in daily life.

What stood out to me most is that you didn’t feel the need to completely abandon your smartphone because, sometimes it just makes sense. Instead, you’ve found a healthier balance that works for your life right now- we call this the hybrid approach  That’s exactly the kind of intentional relationship with technology we hope Mudita Kompakt can support.

Your story matches perfectly with a recent blog that we posted:
