1 Year Later: Mudita Kompakt vs Light Phone 3

Haven’t watched the review yet but these were the two I was choosing between last year. I might have gone LP3 had it not been on pre-order, so the Mudita won (as I needed a phone as my old smartphone had died).

I don’t find myself chained to my phone anymore, it’s really amazing. I suspect it would be the same with LP3 too. I was playing chess on mudita but it’s a bit glitchy and isn’t as nice as playing in-person chess so now that’s lost my interest too! So purely for texts and calls now. Family members have been a bit annoyed and seem confused about using email instead of whatsapp - I think my favourite bit has been not using whatsapp anymore haha! No constant passing thoughts messaged to me either via voice or text and now have more actual phone conversations instead.

I’ve now been smartphone free since last august and social media on phone free for a year (I still use it on desktop but with all feeds blocked for my work).

I’ve even been considering getting a crappy little ā€˜nokia’ flip actually and selling the mudita, but the old school texting thing really puts me off. lol

I had Nokia 2660 Flip for a while, it was fair enough but the texting mechanics were not as good as the OG models back in the day.

That’s the one I was looking at, but yeah… not sure I could handle going back to oldskool texting like that. Would be a nightmare!

If only this one was available in Europe…

Nice. How about Sidephone? I didn’t check its availability though.

Yes it’s nice, but a lot more expensive, and it’s not a dumbphone like the Nokia flip phone. Also the keyboard is not a real QWERTY but a ā€œcompactā€ QWERTY (the irony!)

True. And doesn’t seem to be IP67 either. That’s a pity with any >$100 phone IMO.

The bottom line: most phones are WAY overpriced while having too many issues. The cheap dumbphones are still the better choice. WAY less hassle, more reliability, and no distraction/addiction.

I tend to believe it’s overall low bar coming from the CI/CD culture. Even cheap dumbphones have glitches (CAT B40 was driving me nuts with random reboots and messed up typing mechanics).

Yeah but… (sorry if I keep repeating myself), my old Nokia 1200 was and still is perfect  I don’t mind the T9 because it works perfectly.
People don’t carry a phone these days, they carry a portable computer, and it eats them alive, because they have no self-discipline.

Agreed, old Nokias were the best. I also remember some good Ericsson’s like 550i or Siemens C65, that one was my favourite until Samsung Solid E2370. All did their job 100%. If I knew if those old phones that are on sale today are genuine, I would have a plan what to do when my MK ends it service.

Exactly. And now you pay 10 times as much and have nothing but problems. The only smartphones that work well are constantly connected to Google or Apple. Thanks but no thanks.

Don’t want ai anything on my phone other than maybe predictive text!

Not even that. Correcting wrong suggestions takes longer than typing normally. I think I will switch back to landline :stuck_out_tongue:
