1 Year Later: Mudita Kompakt vs Light Phone 3

I had Nokia 2660 Flip for a while, it was fair enough but the texting mechanics were not as good as the OG models back in the day.

If only this one was available in Europe…

Nice. How about Sidephone? I didn’t check its availability though.

Yes it’s nice, but a lot more expensive, and it’s not a dumbphone like the Nokia flip phone. Also the keyboard is not a real QWERTY but a “compact” QWERTY (the irony!)

True. And doesn’t seem to be IP67 either. That’s a pity with any >$100 phone IMO.

The bottom line: most phones are WAY overpriced while having too many issues. The cheap dumbphones are still the better choice. WAY less hassle, more reliability, and no distraction/addiction.

I tend to believe it’s overall low bar coming from the CI/CD culture. Even cheap dumbphones have glitches (CAT B40 was driving me nuts with random reboots and messed up typing mechanics).

Yeah but… (sorry if I keep repeating myself), my old Nokia 1200 was and still is perfect  I don’t mind the T9 because it works perfectly.
People don’t carry a phone these days, they carry a portable computer, and it eats them alive, because they have no self-discipline.

Agreed, old Nokias were the best. I also remember some good Ericsson’s like 550i or Siemens C65, that one was my favourite until Samsung Solid E2370. All did their job 100%. If I knew if those old phones that are on sale today are genuine, I would have a plan what to do when my MK ends it service.

Exactly. And now you pay 10 times as much and have nothing but problems. The only smartphones that work well are constantly connected to Google or Apple. Thanks but no thanks.

Not even that. Correcting wrong suggestions takes longer than typing normally. I think I will switch back to landline :stuck_out_tongue:

Looks like a white label product. Min. 3000 pieces and customizable brand logo.

Guys you’re ready for a Punkt MP02.
Nice build, basic fonction, T9 and can be used as a hot spot when needed.

At the time of considering “well-made dumbphones” I ditched Punkt because of my low tolerance for the price at that time, Signal app issues (that was a big pain point, I’d be better off not having Signal so not having to try using it) and how long it can work on a battery vs its price point and low app energy footprint. Not gonna lie, E3270 was a reference point for me back then - it easily had 3-4 weeks of battery on a single charging cycle. Now I realized why I’m so sensitive about battery - my personality is “wired” as whimsical and carefree as regards organizational style and without a cable in the car, my smartphone would be mostly dead lol.

But the devil is in the details, I had phones with T9 that sucked when it was about typing. Or the new HMD’s “Banana phone” powered by KaiOS that didn’t have basic words in Polish like “Cześć” (“Hi”) and didn’t allow to add any new words to the dictionary.

Forget it. I bought the MP02 twice. On both devices, the keyboard was defective after less than nine months. You had to press some keys several times before they responded. You often read about this problem on the internet. Otherwise, it’s a nice little minimalist device that I was happy with, but at that price, I can’t afford to buy a new MP02 every year! In general, I agree with what has already been said here: today’s dumbphones or minimalist phones are simply too expensive and have too many problems for the price. When I think of my Nokia 3310, I bought it new and used it for almost 15 years! And it never caused me any problems whatsoever.

I have had the MP02 for more then 5 years. One of the first batch.
Battery range was about 5-6 days before I tried Signal.
But your Nokia don’t have it, right?
Right that Pigeon drains the battery. Don’t know if it is better now that it is integrated.
Have had the keyboard issue at the end. Phone died after a drop.
Now they are built in Europe, perhaps they’ve solved the keyboard issue?
