Voice to Text Feature

Hello everyone,
Is voice to text a planned feature?
Thanks!

Also curious about this! An Eink experience is greatly enhanced by voice to text. I remember hearing that they were planning to add this feature. You could always download Gboard and use the feature through that keyboard, though I’ve heard the experience is slower.

I’ve mentioned this in another thread but it would be nice to have some sort of active blog page where Mudita lists the features they’re planning to implementing after launch (maybe even with rough time estimates as well).

Jose Brionnes showcases the G Board functionality (including speech to text) in his Mudita review.

I would be hesitant to use any Google-based apps and services on the Mudita Kompact. Native speech-to-text capability would be great. @urszula are you able to confirm if this is presently supported or will be in future?

Thanks.

You don’t have to use Google Gboard. You can use FUTO (open source) and get voice to text as well. While a native solution is definitely a plus, voice to text is not easy to maintain in multiple languages.

How do you change the keyboard to a different one? Or change back?

@anon80904485 This is a feature that our team is seriously looking into. It’s a much-requested function. I’ve asked them for some more info on this topic.

FUTO have a good keyboard project: FUTO Keyboard

Re voice input: FUTO Voice Input

Because FUTO runs offline, I’m curious how the AI predictions and voice input will affect battery life. Has anyone tested? @Jose_Briones

No large issues tbh. FUTO is well optimized.

@Jose_Briones, Did I understand correctly voice-to-text input is possible in FUTO? In Futo Keyboard Settings there is a ā€˜Voice Input’ option to ā€˜Disable Built In Voice’ (Use voice input provided by external app.) It find that wording confusing. If it’s unchecked, is it disabling FUTO Keyboard’s voice-to-text? Either way, whether it’s checked or unchecked, I never see the microphone on the FUTO Keyboard. Can you suggest anything? Many thanks.

@petemeister I think @Jose_Briones demonstrated voice-to-text on one of his videos with Mudita Kompakt. However, I’m not sure what he sideloaded.

Leave that one unchecked. Go to Language and Models. Under the specific language, you will see ā€œvoice input.ā€ Click that and explore. Then download the model you want. After that go back and instead of explore, this time click import and select the model you downloaded.

Thanks for this @Jose_Briones. I fumbled my way through and ended up with two versions of FUTO keyboard and FUTO Voice Input using two versions of English (UK and US), but in the end it worked. Hooray! I’m much obliged to you for your help. I’m surprised just how good it is. It still gets confused with some words. Hayfever often comes out as ā€˜Hey! Stever’ which I imagine to be some Aussie making a wisecrack at Steve Jobs, but it’s mostly on the money.

@petemeister @Jose_Briones so with your last two messages what is the proper way to get it working? Sorry I’m a little confused
