Hi, first of all I would like to say that the Mudita Kompakt suits my needs. The limitations of this device is fine, but I would expect the few applications we have available to be a bit more sophisticated. It’s clear to me that the Mudita team is busy at the moment, but I have a few tips for improvements:
Lock screen- editable
Notes- more space for writing, more options for working with fonts(size, italic…)
Calender- more options for reminder, not only 5min
E-book- landscape reading option, copy text option
Meditation(Timer)- ability to set your own time
Maps- I think this app is not quite usable yet, maybe it’s a problem of e-ink technology
Don’t take this as a criticism, you have put up a fight against the windmills and you have my sympathy and support.
As far as Maps, I believe they mentioned the turn-by-turn directions are still coming if that’s what you’re talking about.
Yeah turn my turn needs to come quick, that is the whole reason for a directions tool
I can not imagine using e-ink as a car navigation. By refreshing it blinks a lot.
Second the call for custom reminders on the calendar app, it would also be great to have the ability to add custom recurrences.
Overall loving the device, it’s definitely helping to break my smart phone addiction. Big thanks to the Mudita team!
I would like to see a text-based navigation option in de maps app. This is nicely don in Apple maps. It does not show a map but instead shows every change in direction and a down counting distance to the next turn or whatever. This technology is perfect for e-ink!
yes, that might work well
as an alternative you can use this in a sideloaded web browser
@rowancne Navigation is being added in an update. So yes, we are getting there
Pun intended.
I just used it today with HereWeGo maps. It worked just fine.
What puzzles me is that the calendar app doesn’t use Android’s system-wide calendar storage, meaning we have to rely on third-party calendar apps for CalDAV. Hopefully, this will be changed in a future update, because I would really like to use the stock apps more! ![]()
If I sideload calendar app onto the kompakt will it work properly? Meaning will events pop up with reminders? Thinking of sideloading a calendar app so I can set repeating events, getting tired of constantly having to re-enter daily events
Yes Here maps work fine, also the Organic maps I use are ok. The car navigation is usable with the e-ink display as well. I wrote about the pre-installed Mudita maps.
@anon7028788 Another user on Reddit mentioned that they sideloaded the “One shade app” and they were able to bring back the notification bar and pop up notifications.
I’m using Etar on the Kompakt. It lets you enter events like you would on any other calendar app including reoccurring, reminders, locations, guests… But you won’t get pop ups on the Kompakt of course. But for me this is fine since I sync the calendar to my Nextcloud and check it more on a computer.
@csllr, thank you for that explanation of why I – and you! – had to sideload the Etar app in place of the native Calendar app. Like you, I would prefer to use native apps wherever possible.
@anon7028788, I can “second” @csllr’s description of the functionality of the Etar app. I like to use its “Agenda” view instead of its Day or Week or Month view.
