Thoughts on an Apple Music player? CalmTunes?

Huzzah! That’s wonderful news.

I think I’m just about ready for a limited beta release. Would you be interested in trying it out? This would be without Apple Music implementation. I’m trying to get the foundation there first. Apple Music is almost entirely wired up but I haven’t gotten the dev license yet to fully test it.

It would be an honor.

I’ll get you an apk today. Just keep an eye on your dm’s. It’ll probably be after work, my time (5pm Central Time.)

Hi, loving your podcast and directory apps so far! Love the look of this app and the fact that it can work with either local files or streaming. Curious if this app will have the ability to choose which streaming platform you use. For instance, I primarily use Tidal for music streaming and would love a mindful music app compatible with it.

But for now, the fact that it works with local files is already extremely useful! Thanks for your work!

Hey, thanks for using the apps! At the moment, Apple Music was the only one I have researched that has a good API. I will do a little digging on Tidal to see if they offer anything competitive.

Seems like Tidal has a publicly available API (which has the benefit over Apple Music of being free to use!) Not sure how good it is though.
No pressure either way - if you have time down the road could be cool to give people options

A long time Tidal user here. It would be huge for me if Tidal would be supported! Please, do consider it.

Thanks for the link, I’ll be looking into this today. I’ll post with an update this week if I’m able to make any progress. I’m currently working through an alpha test of the local music with a user to make sure I get the base layer tightened up.

Would love to try it out with local music once you have that part ready to go! Thanks for the great work!

This looks exciting! Would there be any easy way to sync/import playlists between computer and phone? I don’t enjoy creating playlists on Mudita, I feel because the phone isn’t exactly snappy, it’s quite a slow process.

I second this. If there is a specific folder structure we can use for our files to create our playlists on a computer, that would be helpful to know.

Not only cause the process is slow with e-ink, but also the inconsistency of the Music app - especially how it loves to bring you back to the top of the list every time you use the back button, or how editing a playlist show you alphabetical order of title, but in default view it show alphabetical of artist. I keep being reminded of one comment from another thread about how Mudita devs does not seem to use their own apps.

@gloomypanda @stephenshutters @nary I will definitely look into adding playlist support from local folders (and what the industry standard is for them).

I do feel like it’s worth noting, though, that my app does allow you to add songs to a playlist directly from the “now playing” screen which I think helps the flow a lot.

I will also be improving the add to playlist screen with a search function and the ability to have actions on song rows that allow you to “add to playlist” or “add to queue” etc… directly from there.

Updated screenshots: Imgur: The magic of the Internet

I’ve fixed a lot of things brought up by alpha beta testers not easily noted in screenshots but here are some updates for the new “dynamic island” style overlay so you can access now playing from anywhere and the updated player style which also shows the album.

I’ve got some speed improvements to work on but I’d say I’m about half a week away from a full beta release for local music. Then I will start on streaming. Probably Tidal first because it has a free development license. If I can prove the concept of streaming alongside local then I will fully pursue Apple and it’s $100/yr license.

It’s a football (soccer) score tracker I built a little while back for myself. It got put to the side while I finish my main apps.
