Struggling on keeping the Kompakt

@han Our Managing Director- @michalstasiuk replied to your thread. Hopefully his response will clear things up for you as well as other users asking for more info about the Security of Mudita Kompakt, as well as how bugs will be handled and new features added.

Even though I love my kompakt I do agree with a lot of your points, NO ONE should have to sideload apps to improve a phone, after I installed gboard it was miles above the actual keyboard on the phone, same with here maps, you are right, the way the phone was advertised in all the commercials and when you finally get it so many things are broken. There are a hand of people that are not technical etc and don’t know how to sideload apps but as you said when you invest this much in a phone you should not have to do all these work arounds, it is time and effort that more people just don’t want to do

Although I love my kompakt, its the best phone I have ever owned, I can see that a lot of people are going to return this phone because out of the box there are so many things that do not work properly, maps app should have turn by turn directions, music player should have playlists (no change from when the released the Pure), Mudita center does not work on macbook and you can’t add songs, thats just lazy, list goes on and on, more and more I think about it they should have wait to release this phone, because they would have salvaged a lot of the users that are about to return their phones.

If delaying the release a product makes it a better product at launch then thats what you do, Mudita dropped the ball for the vast majority of people and I totally understand peoples frustrations with the device

I get where you’re coming from, however, you have to consider how much development time each of those apps has had. Gboard has been around for nearly 10 years. Gboard is a privacy nightmare too. I’m really grateful that they didn’t ship the phones with it when they didn’t need to. I can’t complain that Mudita went out of there way to make 12 basic apps exclusive to the kompakt.

It seems like the hardware is really dialed in, I think we can all agree that its a great feeling phone. People were already growing impatient about the delivery date, so it makes sense that they get the hardware out into peoples hands and work on the software from there. I mean, the phone works fine as a phone right now.

Agree, FUTO keyboard was recommended to me and it’s been great. Voice to text and typing both work well. I can’t see any reason to use another keyboard

I like heliboard because it allows you to import google’s closed source swipe library (no privacy issues because heliboard doesn’t access internet). I think swipe works really well on the eink screen, though I hope that Mudita allows users to specify different refresh modes for sideloaded apps like keyboards in the future (all non-mudita apps default to a slower one)

Not Kompakt, but just added heliboard to my Boox device and it works really well! I also love the Ui far better than Android’s/

I would really like this as well. I’m using thumb-key right now, and I have to type at about half my usual speed otherwise my swipes and taps don’t register. I don’t know how to swipe, but maybe its worth looking into.

I agree with this sentiment. I’ve sideloaded quite some apps to make the phone ideal FOR ME. I can now can go around without my ā€˜real’ smartphone. I love the Kompakt. But I wouldn’t need to sideload that many apps if they just put a bit of effort in the stock apps. I’ve now sideloaded mostly open-source apps. They could have taken those, optimize for e-ink, and be done with it.

And btw, I’ve now sideloaded the Unlauncher app to get access to all apps on the phone. The stock Android Calendar, Files app and FM radio are there!

They could also have done some expectation management. Put upfront that the map is for meant for walking and hiking and that turn-by-turn comes later (and btw I believe they should also do traffic but for some reason they refuse, even though privacy-friendly ways to get traffic info do exist). Put upfront that the music app is temporarily iPod shuffle-style. Put upfront that the calendar is for now dumbphone-style (no sync) etc.

And yes, no complete Mudita center for Mac is deeply saddening. They should have bundled at least the Android File Transfer app if no time to include that functionality within the Mudita Center.

Agree with all of this, launch of this Kompakt could and should have been much better, having your basic apps not working properly is simply unacceptable, especially since now this is not their first rodeo, they had released the Pure, made mistakes, but seem to be making the same mistakes again, hopefully we won’t have to wait long for these updates. For myself I am happy with the phone for my very minimal needs but as I have said before I totally understand everyone elses frustrations with the device and their reasons for returning it
