I love the Kompakt’s recordings app, it’s everything I need and nothing more. I have noticed it uses the Kompakt’s built in microphone even if an external headset is attached - I was wondering if it could be configured to automatically switch to a connected external microphone similar to other recording apps. A setting for higher bitrate for better quality audio would also be appreciated, but I could live without it.

Hi, I consulted your inquiry with our technical team and here is the response I got:
Regarding the external microphone, our internal testing shows that the native Recordings app does actually route audio from connected headsets. If it is defaulting to the internal microphone on your device, the phone may not be recognizing your specific headphones as having a microphone input, or there might be a physical issue with the plug.
To help us narrow down the cause, please try the following:

Test your current headset during a regular phone call to see if the microphone is recognized by the system at all.

Test the Recordings app using a different pair of wired headphones with a built-in microphone.
Regarding your request for a higher bitrate, our native app is designed to remain as basic as possible. For advanced features like adjustable audio quality we recommend sideloading a third-party audio recording app. A dedicated app will give you the specific controls you need for higher-fidelity recordings.
We also work on a bug fix for improving recordings quality in Voice Recorder.
Please let us know the results of your headset tests so we can assist you further if the audio jack is malfunctioning.

Thanks for the quick response! My original wording was misleading, these are Bluetooth headphones, and on phone calls they do route audio properly. In the recordings app, however, the internal microphone is being used (which I tested by covering it with the Bluetooth headphones connected).

Ran into the same issue, would love to listen be able to pick up a phone call with my wireless headphones or wireless earbuds. 
Small feature but, my headphones can normally pause music when tapped on the side. Or give next and previous songs with swipes, this feature would mean the world to me as well.

@passion7270 I reached out to the team & they looked into this (your headphone specifically) and here’s their take:
The Sony WH-1000XM4 features a “Multipoint” mode that allows it to connect to two devices simultaneously. A common issue on Android is that when a call comes in, the headphones can get confused about which connected device should receive the “answer” command, causing the double-tap to fail.
That’s their first suspicion They would like you to test with Kompakt paired as a only device or as first device paired, not second
Also - do you use any third-party apps? Please list all apps. Any custom dialer can cause issues with bluetooth handshake, so they would like to investigate.

Per your instruction, the headphone touch controls seem to work fine with the phone as first connected devices with regards to the native music player. With the caveat that after a Signal Messenger call the music gets paused, and subsequent headphone touch controls don’t get the music playing again. However, if I manually start the music again, and then use the headphone touch controls, I can get it to pause and get to playing again.
As for picking up calls, you’re right that my preferred dialer is a third-party app, that being Signal Messenger. When using Signal, calling inwards or outwards, having my phone be the only device connected to the headphones as first device, the double-tap touch control does not pick up the phone. What is worth mentioning is that any music playing is paused upon a call from the Signal app, and then doesn’t resume when the call is ended or rejected.

I’m not sure I understand what you’re asking. However, generally, we don’t have any control over third-party app features, and we would not be able to recreate an E ink version of Signal, call it Signal “Signal,” and use the Signal logo, or any official branding assets because Signal aggressively protects its trademark to prevent user confusion and security risks. The e-ink version would have to be entirely re-branded with a unique name, logo, and artwork. PLUS access to Signal’s official servers is not guaranteed. Historically, Signal’s founders and developers have held a strict stance against third-party clients connecting to their production network.
