Reviews of Mudita Pure

Anyone of the early backers who have received their phones yet? A review here?

Here’s my review of the Mudita Pure, and I will update the review as the software matures
This is my main and only phone.

Thanks for the review. Some of the issues you mention (call quality), are probably a combination of speaker + low SAR signal or maybe a lemon too (always a possibility).

Since the ringtones also sound bad, clipped, I think speaker quality rather than connection. To what extent it’s a lemon, I can’t know.

I live in a low-reception area and on both my previous Doro phones I was missing a lot of calls (as in, they just wouldn’t ring and I’d get a text from my operator hours later), we’ll see if that happens with the Pure as well. So far, I’ve only made outward calls,

However, sound quality is way worse with the Pure. Easily the biggest :broken_heart: with the Pure, since a big & cumbersome phone would be fine if it meant good comfortable call quality.

Keep us updated. Are you in the UK? What provider do you use? I hope they fix the speaker issues and other things

That may be just a software problem… or even a damaged speaker. It should have good sound quality when the issue is fixed, as they have partnered with Harman. And the problems you have encountered may be the result of a very early model (this happens a lot in the tech industry). I really hope that with phones shipped later, most problems will be resolved.

Thanks. The sound quality seems to be the major negative thing for me. The other stuff i can live with if the UI and OS gets frequent updates. Would be great to hear when you have tried the tethering.

Same!

That’s gonna be difficult since I don’t have a laptop! It doesn’t work with my tablet (I hope the bluetooth mode will). I’m gonna try out the center Electron thing on my desktop computer once a friend loans me an USB C to A adapter thing.

You got a production unit right? Not a pre-production one?

I got it to work! I’m holding off on a review on it because I see it as work in progress still. I’ve sent feedback to the devs

Not sure why no one is saying it bluntly… this review is horrid… for a phone that only really does calls, texts and music, you’ve let us know that ALL of those features work poorly, in at least one or multiple ways!

The mudita needs to make solid phone calls, needs to sound really good, and needs to have a relatively decent way to send and read texts. If it doesn’t do those things, at least, then it’s a real failure.

Let’s see if anyone who has gotten the phone already says differently than you…

Based on your review, I’m ready to ask for a refund on my pre-order.

Don’t shoot the messenger!

I tried to write an honest and thorough review.

And, thanks to this phone, I can receive deliveries and call the doctor. It works.

Don’t get stuff that you don’t want. Obviously. That’s pretty key to a simple life. If you don’t wanna buy it, don’t buy it. If it’s not gonna spark joy for you, don’t get it.

It makes me happy and I’m proud of it.

It’s pretty much the only simple, open source, 3G phone that I know of. There’s nothing like it.
Pine Phone, Fairphone? Not simple. Light Phone, Punkt? Not open source. Retro phones? Not open source nor can they handle 3G.

I think that the whole idea of developing this phone and OS in this way, with close contact with the community, reacting to ideas and suggestions - it makes me confident that all software related stuff Will be fixed. I Will not cancel, and more reviews should arrive here soon i guess… and for me the whole concept still wins over every negative aspect i have read so far. I Will replace my Nokia 3310 (new) with a mudita pure The tethering functionality alone is a big win for me…

There’s no 2G reception where I live, so that phone isn’t an option for me.

@sandra I will be curious to hear how you experience the sound quality as you travel around your local area.
Where I live (Tasmania) we have lots of areas of poor signal strength which might impact the voice quality of the device.
So perhaps my question is whether you can give an overview (when you have had more time with it) of how variable the sound quality/reception quality is and over what sort of geographic area.
That would be really useful to know if you have the time please :slightly_smiling_face:

It’s great that people wanna be optimistic. I’m the same way, fishing for threads of hope (“Maybe there’s a fixable-in-software gain issue?”). I’m starting to regret even writing the review because people are making it personal.

The ringtones and songs sound bad on the speaker and those aren’t affected by reception.

No one is shooting the messenger, or making any personal comments…

I don’t want you to feel bad for having left a review. I’m very grateful.

I think your view points about serious problems with the mudita pure, and I’m very eager to know how the phone actually functions. Poor sound quality for the speakers and for calls are serious flaws, in my opinion - with the phone, not with you…

Thank you again for leaving a thorough and honest review. I hope others keep sharing their reviews, soon.

I’m not a reviewer. However, I’ll compare my Nokia 6300 and the Mudita Pure when it arrives. My Nokia’s calling features (sound and microphone) are a shame. The voice recorder, well, I don’t know why they put it if you only listen to a distortion noise.

I’m very hopeful that sound and call quality will not be a problem on Mudita, and I’ll wait for it to make an intensive daily usage. I’ll let you know.
