Remove branding

Any branding is bad enough but with an eink screen that doesnt turn off, cmon.

Remove it or ill return the device.

Hi Sgil,

Thank You for your comment. In upcoming updates there will be a change concerning the “lock screen”. In a big hurry, and among other super important stuff we worked on, we just had no time to make an option to change it. And due to big enthusiasm in out software team, we put this big branding there. Which actually is agains our company practice to do only discreet branding or even total no logo (like in our element wrist watch). So please apologize, and be sure, that sooner or later it will be changed. However I cannot promise how fast we will do it, as we have some urgent work in the pipeline as for now.

But it will be changed.

Michal

Michal , Keep up the good work, no one knows what is like to launch a new phone and then fix all the bugs, I am along for the ride and I am excited to get my Kompakt in Canada soon!

Well said. Before I worked in a tech company I did not realize how difficult SW development is. Tech used to seem magical to me. Now I understand that it is really a fragile, complex thing and it is almost impossible to actually find and fix all the bugs before customers receive it. People don’t realize that the “effort” that goes into some features and bug fixes is measured in “man-months” and “man-years” not just an afternoon of work.

Your man-month comment reminded me of this book:

I was guilty of this in the past I will admit it, I get it though we pay our hard earned money and we want everything to be perfect right out of the box, but that is just unrealistic expectation with a team a size of Mudita, I have no clue all the work that goes into making a device like this, working out all the bugs etc. I am glad I don’t have to do it lol

Thanks Michal for tuning in. It is really appreciated how you and the rest of the team are responding peacefully, quick and in a fine matter. Thanks for giving us the opportunity of a different technical approach.

That is not a very helpful or constructive way of giving feedback @sgil.

In another post on the forum myself and others were making a similar point, but giving reasons as to why and bringing up new ideas to improve it instead of whining, complaining and threatening. @Michal_Kicinski I wonder why you thought replying to a post like this was worth it while the one I linked was not worth replying to. Quite disappointing actually. Your time could be much better spent.

I really appreciate that feedback was given by Mudita’s leadership. And I think they can decide for themselves, where and how they do it.
Besides that, it’s one of the classical issues in complex projects: a topic was deemed minor by the project team, but later it turns out to be a major topic for the customer (and in retrospect also for the team after they figured it out). Happens all the time
And I would love to see a “debranded” lockscreen as well, even if it would only show the time (or something simple, like only the ‘press here to unlock’ hint) as, although I am generally happy with the device, I am always a little embarrassed about the up-front branding when it is lying on the table.

If you have the e-reader on and then lock the phone, the Lock Screen is completely empty. This is a bug of course but then you get an complete blank Lock Screen.

I honestly don’t mind the branding, I love the Mudita brand

It’s not happening to me. When I lock the screen from the e-reader, the logo appears. Are you using a fingerprint?

it seems to me, that this was only temporary… I guess a small bug then

Just tried it - the screen turns completely black after locking with the side button while being in the reading view of the E-Reader app. That’s cool!

No it does happen to me too, I reported this on my Eink suggestions thread.

It’s really happening! Weird. When I lock the screen while reading an EPUB format, the screen turns black, but when i lock the screen while i read a PDF document, then appears Mudita logo.

I hope they add some functionality of actually having the “page” I was reading get “stuck” on the screen instead of the logo or a white screen.
