My twin kids both use Mudita Kompakts which works great and must be quite a common use-case. I’m looking for a privacy-focused location sharing app for peace of mind, keep in touch with kids to aid pickups, and help recover forgotten or lost devices. Given how Live360 (recently acquired Tile) has been found to be monetising location info, E2E encryption of location data would be mandatory, as is something that doesn’t require Google Play location services.
I recently discovered https://mygrid.app which purports to satisfying both the above criteria. I can successfully side load the latest APK. (Note: installing from the Aurora store includes a dependency on Google Play services so won’t work.)
However, as the SMS verification user journey does not work in the app, it is dependent on being able to store passkeys on the device. This does not work on the Mudita Kompakt as outlined in this bug - and appears to be a common complaint on other degoogled devices (including GrapheneOS). I have updated the the bug to also highlight the problem with Mudita.
I’m hoping this will be resolved by the developed, but my question is this. Is any way this could be solved from the Mudita OS side, either by supporting passkeys or by some other workaround (@urszula could you possibly check with engineering). The sign-up flow works fine on other Android devices I believe, and I have tested it on Apple iPhone and it works successfully here also.
