I’m using my Kompakt as my solo daily driver. All the apps I really need (two ticket apps for public transport, Spotify, Aegis for work and WhatsApp) work on it. I also put Brave on it for emergency email checking but try to use it as seldom as possible. If I need colour or more features, I either use my iPad at home or, in case of vacation planning with friends in a cafe, bring the iPad with me and use my Kompakt as a Bluetooth hotspot.

With iPhone as a backup, because everyday life today is just very hard without smartphone (banking, ride hailing and commuting)
#1 works great for me so far the only apps I really need (Molly, Spotify, Audible, OrganicMaps) work perfectly. The calendar, alarm and meditation timer are okay. And that’s all I need from a daily driver (besides phone calls). I do still own a second phone (Pixel + GrapheneOS) for banking, authentication stuff etc. but it stays at home in the drawer. And that’s the perfect setup for me so far. I did not expect how much I would love the Kompakt
@han There is really nothing to debug. Apple products are notorious for not playing well with others. To some degree, it is intentional on the part of APPLE.
Apple operates on a “walled garden” strategy, meaning its products work best when used together. This creates a tightly integrated experience for users who stick with Apple, while subtly discouraging use with competing systems. So, while your AirPods can theoretically connect to Android-based devices, they may not work exactly how you would expect them to work.
#1 , same setup here. I switched to the Mudita to get rid of the computer in my pocket and change my digital lifestyle. I find the constant possibility of getting things done immediately on the go very stressful. With the Mudita, this is not possible, and I won’t try to turn the phone into something it’s not supposed to be. The only apps I’ve sideloaded are Signal and Aegis; for everything else, I’ll use a computer once I’m near one, - like it’s 2005 again
It’s so interesting to see the variety of expectations here!
Been there. Done that. Was not happy with the results.
Using Audible and AntennaPod on my SIM-less Pixel is how I was enjoying listening to audiobooks and podcasts when my Sunbeam Wireless F1 Orchid – also a minimalist cellphone – was my daily driver. The joy continues!
hope this gets solved too, you should not have to constantly be switching sims from one phone to another that would drive me insane lol
I expected you would say something like this. This is a grossly uninformed statement that you bring up every time Apple is mentioned.
AirPods are Bluetooth headphones. Aside from the quick pairing and auto device switching features, AirPods are fully compatible with any other device that has Bluetooth radios.
AirPods work fine with plenty of Android devices including the Light Phone. There is zero excuses for Mudita to not fix their Bluetooth problems - AirPods are the most popular Bluetooth headphones.
Your mention of Apple’s walled garden is completely irrelevant.
Although AirPods are extremely popular, their dominance is not universal. YES, in the US, AirPods are by far the most popular wireless earbuds, due in part to Apple’s high smartphone market share. However, brands like Samsung (Galaxy Buds), Sony, Xiaomi, Huawei, Jabra, and OnePlus have strong regional presence and often outperform Apple in markets where iPhones are less dominant.
That said, it’s true that AirPods use standard Bluetooth and can technically connect to any Bluetooth-enabled device, including many Android phones. However, much of what people appreciate about AirPods, like auto-switching, ear detection, and seamless integration, those features are tightly connected to Apple’s proprietary system, which doesn’t extend beyond its ecosystem. That’s the context behind mentioning Apple’s walled garden.
As for Mudita Kompakt, our current focus is on ensuring stable, high-quality Bluetooth support for essential use cases, like audio over wired and wireless headphones, calls, and hands-free connectivity. We understand AirPods are popular, but because they rely heavily on Apple-specific tech for their signature experience, making them work flawlessly with Mudita Kompakt isn’t something we’re prioritizing right now. I’m sorry if that’s not what you would like to hear- but I’m making an effort to be transparent.
That said, improving overall Bluetooth performance is important to us, and we’ll continue to optimize it across a wide range of compatible devices.
That said, it’s true that AirPods use standard Bluetooth and can technically connect to any Bluetooth-enabled device, including many Android phones
This is not a technicality. Airpods are fully compatible with any Bluetooth device

Then fix the Bluetooth issues people are encountering.

This is still irrelevant to the Bluetooth issues @rowancne mentioned. No one is asking for the seamless integration or additional features. You cannot deflect the Kompakt’s Bluetooth issues onto Apple when other Android devices work perfectly with Airpods.

Even in the global market Airpods are still the most popular model of bluetooth headphones. Sales are consistently above 60-100 million units. None of the competitors you mentioned are anywhere close to that.
I would like to end our exchange here. You have repeatedly misrepresented the situation and brought up irrelevant topics to shift the blame on to other manufacturers.
The Bluetooth issue which have been reported ARE being worked on. I have communicated this on the FORUM previously. It’s not something that can be done overnight. They will be included in a future update.
I feel like your misleading our community here with this statement and I cannot leave it unanswered.
While AirPods can connect to any standard Bluetooth device for basic audio playback, calling them fully compatible with all Bluetooth devices is misleading.
Here’s what you lose when using AirPods outside the Apple ecosystem:
- No auto-pairing or seamless device switching
- No in-ear detection (automatic pause/play when removing an AirPod)
- No Siri access or button customization
- No spatial audio or adaptive EQ tuning
- No firmware updates unless connected to an Apple device
- No Find My AirPods support
- Limited battery status visibility
These aren’t minor features. These features are integral to the experience Apple markets. So yes, AirPods connect via Bluetooth, but that’s not the same as full compatibility. That phrase implies feature parity, and that’s simply not the case on non-Apple devices.
When it comes to Mudita Kompakt, the focus is on supporting core Bluetooth functionality that aligns with the phone’s minimalist, privacy-focused design. Prioritizing deep AirPods integration, especially given their reliance on proprietary Apple protocols, doesn’t align with that mission right now.
I looked over the link you sent & it clearly states that paired with Android phones or other non-Apple devices, AirPods function as basic Bluetooth headphones. This means you can:
- Listen to audio
- Make and receive phone calls
- Use basic playback controls (e.g., play/pause)
However, these features represent only a subset of the capabilities AirPods offer when used with Apple devices.
Hope that clarifies things. I don’t want to confuse our Forum Community members into believe that this purely is a KOMPAKT issue when it clearly not. That said. the Bluetooth issue, which have been reported, are being worked on.

Not a single one of these features are apart of the BLUETOOTH specification. I’ll even include a link to the page so you can prove me wrong - Specifications | Bluetooth® Technology Website
So yes, AirPods connect via Bluetooth, but that’s not the same as full compatibility .
Airpods are fully compatible with BLUETOOTH, they have been certified by the standards group. I do not understand why you are deliberately misinterpreting my statements.
I clearly stated.
No one is asking for the seamless integration or additional features. You cannot deflect the Kompakt’s Bluetooth issues onto Apple when other Android devices work perfectly with Airpods.
Apple is transparent about the limited functionality. Airpods users are not expecting these non-Bluetooth features. Here is a direct quote from Apple’s Airpods page
AirPods can be used as wireless Bluetooth headphones with Apple devices using earlier software and with non‑Apple devices, but functionality may be limited.
Nearly everything we have discussed is a tangent. I do not appreciate accused of misleading the community, when you could have simply stated the Kompakt has Bluetooth issues that are being fixed and ended this exchange 4 messages ago.
For the sake of clarity, It is 100% a Kompakt issue and no other party is responsible.
My advice look elsewhere for a device better suited to your needs, arguing back and forth with this company accusing them of being misleading is just incorrect
I only asked for Bluetooth issues to be fixed.
I do not know why all these other topics were brought up. Bluetooth is an open standard, and the Kompakt was promised to have Bluetooth support.
Thank you @minimalist4life I totally understand that some people are used to a product functioning a specific way, but expecting Mudita Kompakt to function like a traditional smartphone (just with E Ink) can sometimes lead people to be disappointed. That’s why we offer a 14-day money-back guarantee. You can check out the device & really see if it fits into our lifestyle. And if AirPods are part of that journey, we’re happy for you. However, those AirPods might not always be happy with Mudita Kompakt.
You also had a first love- am I right? But now, you’re hoping for something better
Option 2: I’m planning on telling close friends and family to contact me on my Kompakt if urgent, but feel free to message me on iPhone if not urgent. The iPhone will be more of a backup for when I go places where I need to have apps (SF Giants games where they don’t have paper tix anymore, parking, etc). I also have an iPad that I use somewhat like a laptop. Thankfully I also have a windows laptop to load up the Mudita Center since that probably is better than using the iPad.
Han,
You both with Ursula, are right (more or less). Just please be sure, that we are monitoring all bugs reports, and we put all our efforts to fix them. Nearly whole team building the OS and APPs is now being moved to new tasks including fixing, which is high PRIO. So please give us some time, and then judge the result
I appreciate your response and acknowledgment of the bug. Here is some feedback for the Mudita community team.
- Be clear and upfront about ongoing bugs. Do not jump to deflecting the blame.
Urzula’s first response did not mention anything about Bluetooth bugs. It was both incorrect and condescending.
- Do not bring up off topic tangents and argue semantics with users.
Urzula’s later responses conflate Bluetooth standards with Apple’s specific features. They also incorrectly mention Airpods’ global marketshare.
- Take time to actually understand the user’s request.
Urzula kept ignoring my multiple statements specifying that this issue is about Bluetooth.
I am actually a fan of Mudita and the Kompakt. However, these interactions have left me frustrated.
This whole exchange could have been a single message stating that Bluetooth is being worked on. I do not mind waiting for the Bluetooth bugs to be fixed in a reasonable timeframe.
I hope you will improve the way the community team communicates.
You are incorrectly interpreting comments as condescending, how can you tell from text messages in a forum? There are not in the business of doing that to their customers. I would take a step back and breathe, everyone here wants the phone to be a great phone and no one is attacking anyone.
