No GPS despite all criteria met - ?Bug

Hi,

Have been outside with the GPS/MAPs in Berlin, clear site of sky.

Everything turned on. App privelages provided.

Still didn’t work

Tested it with GPSTest and didn’t get any signal.

Interrogated and received this info:

GPS is not functioning on my Mudita Kompakt.
Using GPSTest outdoors, no satellites are detected.

From adb shell dumpsys location:

  • gps provider is enabled

  • requests are received

  • but mStarted=false and no GNSS activity occurs

  • 0 satellites processed, 0 fixes

This suggests the GNSS hardware is not being initialized.

Can you confirm if this is a known firmware issue or a hardware defect?
Can I do anything to fix this?

Thank you,

Scott

Hi @smarin and welcome to the Mudita Community Forum. Cograts in your first post!

Getting a first time GPS fix can take quite some time, this is a known issue.

First of all make sure location sharing is enabled, at least for the weather app, in Settings.

Go outside and make sure you have at least 270⁰ clear free view at the sky.

Open the weather app, settings (top left), default location (which is Warsaw by default) and hit the visor icon to obtain the current location, instead of Warsaw. Unfortunately, this can take anywhere upto 15 minutes. The clearer the view at the sky, the better. Once you have pressed the visor icon, refresh until your location is shown. That should work, but again it’s slow. If that doesn’t work contact [email protected], there’s always a small possibility you have received faulty unit. Once it has it’s first GPS fix, it will continue updating periodically when you’re outside. The Mudita Kompakt has no aGPS (yet, hopefully that will be added in a future release) , so it won’t work indoors. Make sure you give location permissions in settings for each app you wish to use with GPS.
