New Kompakt arriving today!

Hi everyone  I am a middle aged person (in UK) .2 years ago I stopped using a smartphone and since then I have used a Punkt MP02, a Nokia 3210 and now a Nokia 2660 flip (and I use a laptop at home for everything else I need to do on a screen!) They all did the trick of simplifying my life and vastly improving my happiness, but they all glitch! So I have ordered the MK, as I need something more reliable for phone calls and with a touchscreen. I am getting slightly worried that the MK will be too complicated for me - I am not that tech savvy!! Should I be putting aside quite a lot of time (and perhaps asking a clever young person for help) to set it up? Thank you

Welcome, I hope you will be pleased with the simple Kompakt, I am an older person, and find it easy to understand.

As a middle aged man myself I’ve been using the Kompakt for quite some time and I can assure you: you’ll get used it very quickly, I find the UI very intuitive. Besides setting it up (possibly) there’s no manual required to use it.

And if you want to take things a step further and expand its possibilities beyond it’s default capabilities, there are plenty of users to help you.

Thank you! I now have a question  I haven’t worked out how I can see that I have missed calls and texts on the lock screen? I don’t want to have to unlock the phone to get that info! Thanks

Well, simply said, you can’t. The lock screen is static. It will be possible to change the background image in a future release but to prevent you from looking regularly whether you missed something (which is the opposite of Mudita’s philosophy), they have decided by design to take that temptation away. Not gonna lie, it might some time to take used to, but once you take back control (instead of your phones notification), it’s gonna give you an incredible peace of mind. And as long as the Offline+ mode isn’t activated you will still receive notifications for calls and texts, so if needed, people can reach you anyway. And if you don’t want to, just flip the switch to Offline+. This takes some time and behavioral changes, but you’ll experience the positive effects shortly.

Thank you Marco - I have had dumbphones for 2 years after making a conscious decision to leave the world of smartphone “addiction” and I love it! however, the call quality was so bad with earbuds on the dumbphones I tried that I thought I would try the MK as calls are my main need! I had some calls since setting up the phone yday and I was so happy with the quality, as were the people on the other end! However, I don’t know if I will get used to having to press the unlock button to see if I have notifications of calls ! That was something I enjoyed not having to do with the other dumbphones! Hmmm…

Just give it a try! To me personally it has made a huge difference, as it were mostly the notifications who tempted me to pick up my smartphone. Now I know I am available to anyone whitelisted and will check my phone periodically, at a time of my choosing and not pressured by a notification. I have full confidence this will just work out fine, but you have to give it some, as Mudita Kompakt is unlike other (dumb-)phones.

OK, I like your positive attitude to this! I will try for sure ! I guess I will experiment with leaving the sound on more!

You were right!! I am already basically used to this and it has only taken a day  I do have another issue though…it is minor but slightly irritating. I set all the sounds to silent eg keypad etc and I understand how to change the volume of the ringer . I used the offline mode this evening and when i turned it back online, i noticed that when i send an SMS it makes a dee-dee noise! I notice it doesn’t do that if the ringer is off (of course!) but I am almost 100% sure that it wasn’t making that sound when i sent an SMS even with the ringer on, before i used off line mode! Am I imagining this?! I am very keen on as much silence as possible! Thank u

Well, that didn’t take long :innocent::grin:

You’re the second person reporting this day hearing a notification when sending an SMS, which shouldn’t be the case indeed. It could be from the SMS app, but I don’t know why or how. Something what does happen incidentally is that an app, called Duraspeed, which manages memory and closes unused apps shows a hidden notification which unfortunately makes a sound. The development team isnaware of this and looking for a solution. Regarding the SMS app, could it be that you be that you changed the Confirmation on receipt option? This might trigger a notification as well.

Enjoy your quiet day!

Haha thank you! I haven’t sideloaded any apps (I only found out what sideloading means about 3 days ago ) or do you mean the built-in SMS app?! Am I making any sense haha. Sounds interesting and good that someone knows about this and is looking into it - thank u!

I’ve skipped the part on sideloading on purpose, for now. First get used to the Mudita Kompakt, as it’s designed, would have my preference. I meant the stock SMS app, indeed.

Regarding your last question, I can’t find it either. For what it’s worth, it’s a useless setting, it will only notify you that a text message has reached the SMS gateway of the recipient, and says nothing about the actual recipient, because SMS simply wasn’t (and still isn’t) able to tell when it arrives at it’s destination. If I come accross it I’ll let you. And now it’s apparently time for some more coffee, when I start suggesting to check settings, that can’t be found (although, in my defence, Mudita has hidden a lot of settings that are either never or not often used, to keep things simple).

Have a great day.

Cheers,

Marco
