My Kompakt review after a week of use

Thought I would finally write up a review because I have been loving the phone.
My needs are simple, I am lucky I don’t need apps for 2fa or anything like that for work anymore, I actually decided to change careers from Sales to Addiction and Mental health counselling, I actually recently got accepted into a graduate program and I am very excited to help people battle addiction having battled alcohol addiction for well over 20 years (currently 7 years sober)

I have been addicted to tech and smartphones a vast majority of my life and battled porn addiction so when I made the jump into dumb phones about 4 years ago I literally rewired my brain and I used a variety of devices and I feel like all that was necessary work I had to do to bring me to the Kompakt. Even though you can sideload etc because I have deleted all my social media accounts a long time ago there is no danger of me sideloading time wasters onto the kompakt. I added what I added to make it a useable tool. I added the gboard, a maps app, herewe go maps and a podcast tool. All these devices have made this such a lovely phone that keeps me PRESENT. I love walking around every day with literally zero access to the internet to randomly check nonsense.

The build of the phone is amazing, just a lovely phone. It is light, I love the size I don’t find it bulky at all and I know its like because it has a massive battery that I literally never have to worry about, I have been charging it whenever I get the chance and have never let it get below 70 percent because I want the battery to last long because I know I will easily be using this phone at least 5 years.

I thought I would not use the ebook reader but I actually really like it, I don’t use it to read on a daily basis I still prefer physical books but I put books on there that I can read when waiting in line, drs office etc, waiting for a movie to start, or when I wake up in the middle of the night and can’t fall asleep. I have trouble sleeping at night so its nice to have a e-ink screen that you can read at night but you can still fall asleep when you need to.

The only issues I had at first was not being able to download music from the Mudita center but I ended up using my sons chrome book and it did the trick.

Overall this phone is just amazing, I love the offline mode plus, I literally use that all the time especially when I go to bed to conserve battery.

My only major gripes are the notifications not being separated, we need to be able to silence text messages and still be able to hear phone calls. The calendar app sucks lol, I hate having to input the same events over and over.

Other than that I am excited to have this phone as I start my addictions and mental health graduate program in September, I am sure when I start my career I will meet people with tech addiction and I will 100 percent recommend the Kompakt!

Thanks to the Mudita team for making this fantastic product, BUT please send us some updates soon! :stuck_out_tongue_winking_eye:

@anon7028788 Thank you so much for taking the time to share your thoughtful and honest review. Your journey, from overcoming addiction to pursuing a new career in mental health and counseling, is deeply inspiring, and we’re honored that Mudita Kompakt is now part of this meaningful chapter in your life.

I know Mudita is truly grateful for your ongoing support of our products, from your first love Mudita Pure (Sorry, :upside_down_face: it didn’t work out :black_heart:) to Mudita Bell & now Mudita Kompakt. It’s really cool to hear how you’ve customized your Kompakt to serve as a tool for presence, clarity, and balance. That’s exactly what we hoped Kompakt could become, not just a phone, but a companion for intentional living.

We also really appreciate your constructive feedback. You’re absolutely right about the need for better notification management and calendar functionality. Our team is on it & brighter days are ahead (and they include group messaging & navigation). Like @aleksander mentioned while I was gone, the team is actively working on upcoming software updates, and your suggestions are super helpful in guiding that roadmap.

From all of us at Mudita- we wish you all the best as you begin your graduate program this September. That’s a HUGE step. Monumental, really. However, we have no doubt you’ll make a lasting impact( like you do here on the forum).
And when the topic of tech addiction comes up, we’d be proud to know Kompakt might help someone else reclaim their focus and well-being.
PS: You might want to write something for the Blog?

I’m sure that you know this, but we are so glad you’re part of this community & we’ll be cheering you on every step of your journey!

Congratulations, Sundeep, for masterfully turning life’s lemons into lemonade … and a career that helps others!

Here is something that I seriously would like to know, and you, @minimalist4life, may be the perfect person to ask:

  • Which is more compulsive-behavior-creating on a cellphone?

    • Being able to see missed-calls, -voicemail, -text-messages notification disks / dots/ lights on a cellphone and then getting triggered – or not – to pick up the cellphone to learn who called, to hear the voicemail content, or to read the text message(s)
      -OR-
    • NOT being able to see these because (a) the cellphone lacks such notification technology or (b) the cellphone has that technology but must be handled to see the notifications, and then picking up the cellphone throughout the day – or not – to check for missed calls, missed voicemail, and missed text messages

Perhaps someone already has published research about this, or perhaps you will investigate it in your graduate work!

Very good questions Kirk, I know for me this is the reason I don’t want any notification lights on the Kompakt unless it was missed calls, because to me that is the only IMPORTANT notification, I don’t want to see a visual reminder that I got the text, one of the other reasons I did not like Sunbeam having the notification lights on the outside although I think from what i remember you were able to just set it to show missed calls only right?

I like the extra friction, this of course if just me being an addict to tech, I completely understand that this set up does not work for everyone, so hopefully Mudita through updates in the future really helps us all customize the phone to our own individual circumstances
