Hello! I got the Mudita Kompakt yesterday and wanted to share some stuff I loved about the phone, and things I believe could have some more features.
BTW, any other Mudita Kompakt owners from Romania? Greetings!
First impressions, I love the design and form factor of the phone. It feels great to hold, albeit the case is a tiny bit too slippery for my hands, but it isn’t a deal-breaker. The e-ink screen is by far the feature I love the most about it, and the fact that it runs Android, because I do need internet messaging for my faculty.
Some stuff I noticed for sildeloading:
- I installed F-Droid Basic which seems to perform better with e-ink screens, as I also have used it on my e-ink tablet.
- You can disable animations from the developer settings, which can help with some apps.
- The developer settings has a ‘search’ button that also lets you search for any settings that aren’t on the main screen, which is quite useful.
- GPS location may take a day or so to work. It didn’t work at all for me when I got the phone, but started working the next day. I also rebooted the phone if that changed anything.
Stuff I wish the phone would have:
- Option to set the battery charging to 80% max, since I really want to prolongue the battery life
- Romanian support for the keyboard, although I understand this can be a difficult thing to implement. For the moment, I sideloaded Fossify keyboard.
- I have seen a discussion for an always-on display option. If it gets implemented, I’d like to have the option to disable it or choose a photo for the ‘off’ lock screen, like on some e-readers.
Overall, I am really pleased with the Kompakt and I really like what Mudita has done with it so far! It really feels like the perfect middle-ground for me, choosing only what really matters (and, of course, gotta love that e-ink screen! ).
