Mudita Harmony 2 time always one minute ahead

I regular synch with the Mudita Center app (macOS version). I suspect that the clock rounds up, so that, if for example, the synched time reads 111:55:28, the clock turns that into 11:56:00.

Hey, I noticed the same thing, but I thought it just happens over time, given it’s an analog clock.

you mean the Mudita Bell, not the Mudita Harmony. the former has an analogue display, the later uses e-ink.

my Harmony is always running ahead. I just go in and change the time when it gets more than 5 mins off.

@ryubyss Thank you for flagging this. I will ask the team about this and see what explanation they give me. I will return with the response once they get back to me.

@urszula: thank you! I hope that they can fix this.

I talked to our team about this and I found out something extremely interesting today that I did not know before.

I always knew that analog clocks & watches (the ones with minute and hour hands) can lose or gain seconds each day and may need to be reset from time to time. It happens if there’s a battery or if the watch is automatic. However, today I also found out that OFFLINE digital clocks can also gain or lose time, because “digital” describes how the time is displayed, not how the device measures it. Mudita Harmony 2 is an OFFLINE alarm clock.

We have become accustomed not just to accurate clocks, but to clocks that quietly correct themselves before we ever notice an error.

Phones, computers, smartwatches, TVs, and many appliances regularly compare their clocks with an external time source. As a result, they seem inherently perfect, even though their internal quartz clocks may still drift. The synchronization simply hides it.

Most offline digital clocks contain a tiny quartz crystal oscillator. Electricity makes the crystal vibrate at a predictable frequency, commonly 32,768 times per second. The electronics count those vibrations and convert them into seconds, minutes, and hours.

The crystal is extremely consistent, but not perfect. Things like temperature, power supply, battery level can affect it.

So, don’t worry, there’s nothing wrong with your clock. You can simply sync it with Mudita Center.

@**urszula: thank you for the long reply.

with that said, though, I keep the clock plugged in almost all of the time and the battery reads 100% all of the time. also, and more importantly, it displays a time twenty or so seconds ahead of the computer clock even the same day that I synch it.**

That could also impact the accuracy.

Sometimes, when you keep digital clocks plugged in all the time they count the frequency of the electrical grid rather than using their own quartz crystal.

Please keep in mind, without an external reference such as the internet, GPS, a radio time signal, or manual adjustment, nearly every clock will eventually drift. The main difference is how quickly.

I understand. I mean to point out that it doesn’t just happen, but happens within a few hours of my synching with the laptop time.

Just to add to this, you really don’t need to do that. I think I have charged my Harmony 2 like 5 times over the last 10 months. The battery holds up really long!

@nicolas.niegsch Maybe unplug it for a week or two & see how that affects the time.
I would troubleshoot it this way:

  1. Fully charge the clock
  2. Sync the time
  3. Let it be without charging for a week or two & see if it looses or gains time.
