New messages do indeed appear at the top now, but also appear above my pinned conversations (all on Signal). This is not supposed to happen I think?

@superannette, thank you for the videos, they found it. Opening a Signal conversation went through every message it held, and did it again on every change in the conversation, your own send included. That’s why the conversation with the longest history was the slowest both to open and to show a sent message. It now asks for only what it needs, so a long history no longer costs seconds. Starting the app from closed is slow for a different reason, and I’m looking at that next.
And you were right about pinned conversations: with Unread at the top on, pinned ones now stay above unread ones.

@superannette, this is the slow start from your first video. Messaging now opens from closed in about 2 seconds rather than 4. Signal’s encrypted store takes a while to unlock, and the first screen used to wait for it in four different places; it now unlocks in the background while the list is already showing.

Signal people can now be given a nickname, as in Signal: open a conversation’s Details, then Nickname, and give a first name, a last name and a note. The conversation is called by it straight away, ahead of the name on their profile. Useful when someone’s Signal name isn’t what you call them, or doesn’t match their text conversation.
The nickname is kept with your Signal account, end-to-end encrypted and seen only by you, so Signal Desktop and your other devices show it too, and one set on another device shows up here. Delete takes it away again.
1.32.6, in between: with Contacts installed, Add contact and Attach a contact go straight to it.

Messaging 1.32.8 is up, and the card is updated. Two small follow-ups to nicknames.
A Signal conversation now follows a change of name. If a nickname is taken away on another device, or someone changes the name on their profile, the conversation here takes the new name too. A name from your own contacts is left as it is.
The dialogs on a Signal conversation’s Details screen (nickname, disappearing messages, group name and so on) now open without dimming the screen behind them, in a white frame with a black rim, so they draw cleanly on e-ink.

Regarding this, it would be nice if there was a visual indication that there are new messages in the header of the tab (bold text, dot as usual). Otherwise, you do not see if there are any new messages.

Hi, any chance we’ll get WhatsApp, Messenger, Instagram, Telegram, and Discord added? That could be the ultimate app. Great job! ![]()

@nico.n Messaging 1.32.12 is up, and the card is updated. A tab with anything unread in it now shows a dot before its name, so “• Groups” or “• Unknown”, and the dot goes once those messages are read. The tabs on the separate Signal list do the same. Thank you for asking.
@Ophe Thank you. I’m afraid that one is unlikely. Signal can live inside Messaging because its code is open and it welcomes linked devices. WhatsApp, Messenger, Instagram and Discord don’t allow other apps to connect, and accounts that try can be banned. Telegram does allow it, but it is a whole messenger of its own to build and keep up, so it isn’t something I’m planning.

I do like this app, and I figured that I wanted to try the Signal function. I have not been using Signal in the past. I found it a bit difficult to register as new user. I finally got past the Signals human check by using the accessibility option, and I managed to read an SMS while in another part of the app by using the pup up function. But when I entered the code I got in the SMS, I received this notification from the app.
I’ve tried several times, and I might have got different messages along the way, but this is what I got now when I took a screenshot of it.
Anything to do about this?
