Ive had the basis of this project sketched out since I bought my MK, but not had the time to start making a prototype, today I did the design work and made a test piece, it still needs a lot of work but its functional and has shown me where things can be improved
Thanks for sharing @sundancermartin . That keyboards seems to fit like a glove. Do you have a link? Does it work out of the box via USB or Bluetooth? The phone stays in a case as well, if I’m seeing this correctly?. Tell me more, please, I’m interested.
Yes the Kompakt stays in the stock case, I wanted to keep it to serve as added protection, the phone can be slid in and out easily but due to the soft TPE material the Mudita case is made from it stays put and does not slip out. I designed the phone holder this way on purpose, it does add a little to the overal size, but Im ok with that. I will be refining it a little, and expanding the design further, this is just the rough prototype to confirm its worth developing further.
It connects via bluetooth straight away, Ive trialed several keyboards, and they all seemed to work out of the box, basically any BT device will be seen and work, I was given this one and it happened to be the closest, to the size of the MK which is why I used it, sorry I dont have any information on it, but as I said pretty much any bluetooth keyboard will work. My ultimate goal would be to get the keyboard from the Psion 5 to work with the Kompakt that would be amazing, but require a lot of work.
Great work, keeps us posted!
Ive gone through several different iterations, I finally settled on this version, it works really well and the MK stays put, I can hold it upside down and shake it, it doesnt move in the housing.
Have to say Im loving typing on a hardware keyboard again.
But now it’s almost as long as a surfboard
Would be nice if it was more KOMPAKT ![]()
Yes it has made it longer, but then adding a keyboard is impossible to do without an increase in size. It’s no bigger than the iPhone I used to carry all the time so I dont mind.
I can also just slide it out of the housing and its back to the usual size complete with soft rubber case
I like that keyboard. Where is it available ?
I just came across this: Clicks Power Keyboard: One keyboard. All your smart screens. Haven’t checked the sizes but as it is retractable, it should be able to be used on the Mudita Kompakt Nakedcellphone Magsafe cases: Nakedcellphone Case for Mudita Kompakt Phone (Compatible with MagSafe)
I’d rather call it a mudberry ![]()
I have bought from clicks in the past, terrible company, and they dont honour their warranty. There are good with the concept, but not so good with the execution, I would never buy from them again.
I glad a clicks keyboard case for my iphone, it fell from the bed onto a heavily carpeted floor les than 2 ft, the corner of the case cracked and split and the keyboard was no longer recognised by the phone, I got in touch with them and explained that the fall had been very minimal, and I eventually got a replacement, a couple of months later, the same thing happened again, withe the same result a crack in exactly the same place, literally identical to the first.
When I contacted clicks they refused to do anything about it, when I pointed out they have a manufacturing problem they flat denied any issues, yet when I went to their discord channel, there were multiple examples of the same problem with pictures of the defect identical to mine, having worked in the injection moulding in various technical roles for 20 plus years, I am able to recognise a manufacturing fault when I see one. It seems they would rather ignore the inherent faults with their product than address them properly. Every customer on the forum had the same experience as I, they were given a replacement, and when that failed too they were ignored.
So my advice is stay well clear
Thanks for the heads up
Do you have any other suggestions?
Not really, other than to do something like I have. There’s no way to realistically add a keyboard without increasing the size of the phone though, so whatever you do it will make the Kompakt less pocketable, I don’t mind this as I carry it in a bag. I would be happy to share the stl file if you want to print or modify the holder, it could probably be trimmed down a little.
as I said I’d love to get the keyboard from the psion working with the Kompakt but, I don’t see a way to get the screen to run in landscape,.I have also considered making a folio style leather case and fitting the keyboard to it
