What is the dimensions of the kompakt? It looks like it has big bezels.
@jalucky13 Welcome to the Mudita Forum! We’re glad that you’re here!
Mudita Kompakt will have the following dimensions: 128mm x 70mm x 12.6mm.
The E Ink screen is 4.3″
…which translates to ~ 5" x 2 3/4" x 1/2"
@urszula: What will the external dimensions be with the protective case enclosing the Mudita Kompakt?
Is the 4.3 inch screen including the navigation buttons or without?
Given that the hypotenuse of a right triangle is longer than the length of either of the other two sides of a right triangle, and given that a 4.3" screen means that the screen’s right-triangle hypotenuse is 4.3" long, and given that the length of the Kompakt is 5", then the 4.3-inch reference can NOT include the navigation buttons.
Ok great. I love the size of my original iPhone SE and this seems about that size.
Can you test if you can plug it into usb-c Ethernet for data? I don’t like to use wireless all the time.
I am a fellow customer, not an employee of Mudita, so I am waiting until Mudita ships the Kompakt!
Oh I’m sorry. I didn’t know.
Per iPhone SE - Technical Specifications - Apple, it is not quite as long (5" vs. 5.45"), it is slightly wider (2 3/4" vs. 2.65"), and it is thicker (1/2" vs. 0.29").
No worries! I agree with you about the USB-C-to-Ethernet-connection approach. I use this for a SIM-less smartphone as a way to download the latest podcasts, for example.
Can you check if you can plug it into usb-c Ethernet adapter for data? I don’t like to use wireless all the time.
I meant the original se from 2016. Its 123.8 x 58.6 x 7.6 mm (4.87 x 2.31 x 0.30 in)
@jalucky13
It’s just the screen
Ok thanks. Can you please check if you can plug it into usb-c Ethernet adapter for data? most androids you can but some you can’t
@jalucky13 Our team said that it does
oh good thanks. How does this work on verizon? is it certified with Verizon? i heard they are picky
@jalucky13 Thanks for your question.
Mudita Kompakt does have PTCRB certification which is an industry-recognized certification for cellular devices in North America. This ensures that mobile devices meet network-specific standards so they can function reliably on North American wireless networks…
Explaining the Trend Toward Bigger Cellphones
- Technical Improvements: Bigger screens became less expensive to make. Compare the screen sizes of early flip phones and candy-bar phones to those of today’s cellphones.
- Wow Factor: A bigger cellphone draws attention. Think of the “phablets” fad.
- Age Wave: Younger smartphone-only users are replacing those who first grew up with landline calls, TV shows, and computers. Many younger users today (not liking to answer calls) do not create voicemail greetings, but instead use their cellphones to watch videos and surf the Web, which require bigger cellphones.
My Reflections on the Dimensions of the Mudita Kompakt
- Technical Improvements: Mudita has embraced the “SHOULD be done” usable-in-sunlight value of E Ink but, I would say, has rejected the “CAN be done” possibility of making a larger cellphone than the Kompakt.
- Wow Factor: Mudita targets customers who like minimalism, which does not require attention to be valued.
- Age Wave: Mudita seems to be targeting ANYONE who wants a cellphone for the basics. These can be older customers who want to continue enjoying watching movies and surfing the Web on large screens. And, these can be younger customers who realize that their smartphones are dominating their attention, to the detriment of their relationships, their situational awareness, and their mental health.
