Just for fun :)

I have to be honest, I used to remember all the phone numbers- I still remember my childhood home number. However, these days, I had to call someone, I’m not sure if I remember any phone numbers. LOL

I love landlines. Beside talk and better designed phones.,
it offered 9-44k data transfers and even 128k with ISDN which was fast at HTML3 time.

I still remember the number I grew-up with, although it does help that my mum and dad still use that landline, hehe.

Sadly, pride in telephonic audio quality has dropped with the demise of copper-pair-based, plain-old telephone service (POTS) lines. Many people today will tolerate “good enough” audio quality in telephone calls that would NOT have been good enough 20 years ago. I have found voice-over-Internet-protocol (VoIP) services that match the audio quality of POTS calls and BEAT the audio quality of cellular calls, so I often make calls from home with a VoIP line instead of with a cellphone.

I enjoy seeing movies and TV shows in which the actor dials a number by memory!

I agree, and I just can’t understand how telecom companies cannot get the ‘audio quality’ quite right.

I often hear interviews on the radio in which the guest must be asked to hang up and call again the radio host – but with a VoIP or POTS line instead of with a cellphone or with Skype or some other through-the-computer technology. The quality of cellphone and Skype-related calls are simply not good enough for many interviews.

I listen predominantly to talk radio (LBC in the UK) and from time to time they will have a few days of calls dropping, disconnecting or very poor quality. And that is a professional outfit!

Perhaps some of us have exchanged phone numbers for internet usernames and passwords…

We had a Teledex thing kinda like this one, with a really cool slider to get to the alphabet listing of the name. Some listing pages were covered with Whiteout and written over so many times the pages were quite hardened! So, no phone number memory required

Wonderful! We had one of those too.

VOIP sucks in quality and support.
Yes, live radio shows are great. I still use FM.

Because VOIP is lossy, like YT compressed audio is.
Old DIGITAL landline is FLAAC ::smiley:
Old analog line with your double on line is … weird mp3 with background noise

Oh, WOW! Great pics! There’s something about old handphones that light up my face with a smile… I don’t know why.
I had a collection of cordless phones back in the day and loved to go window shopping in the electronics stores and play with their demo cordless phones.
Curiously this fascination of mine doesn’t extend to mobile phones… quirky!
