Is the Text Correction working [Kompakt]

Hello, for me the Text Correction does not seam to work. Could it be that this because I use 3 different languages ? While typing I don’t see any correction suggestions or auto correct. Any idea ?

It works for me. No issues

Yes indeed, you are right, it works for me on the Mudita “native apps”. I have the issue on sideloaded apps. Never noticed that it works fine in SMS, since I very seldom send these. Thanks all.

@hgeeratz That’s why we keep saying that sideloaded apps might not perform like people are used to them working on a smartphone because they are not optimized for Mudita Kompakt. This is an example of this.

Yes totally understandable and acceptable.

In my case, I’ve never seen text correction working in any of the apps, including SMS. If you misspell even a single letter, nothing will be corrected and all suggestions will vanish.

I think it’s more accurate to say in the SMS app it will suggest the rest of the word for you, if you’ve typed it perfectly up to that point.

I really think upgrading this would be a powerful improvement to the phone and make typing much faster (especially on the e-ink screen).

Some examples where I think text correction / suggestion should be improved:

  • Conjunctions. If I type “dont”, it should be smart enough to change it to “don’t”
  • Slight misspellings: currently doesn’t offer any form of correcting errors (during or after typing a word)
  • Capitalization: obvious things like the letter “i” in English should be auto capitalized
  • Add a space automatically: If I click a suggested word, I will always want a space after it. Right now the space needs to be added manually and slows down the typing experience
  • Notes app bug: if you click a suggested word, a line break is automatically added at the end, which must be a bug rather than a feature

@brendxn I think there are two different things you’re asking about- predictive text & spellchecker (AutoCorrect)
Predictive text works fine for me

However, you seem to be right about the spellchecker/AutoCorrect.

It doesn’t seem to be working for me either.
I will ask the team about this & get back to you.

It´s time to learn to write correctly again :upside_down_face:
I am walking that path since I have been using GrapheneOS and didn’t want to change the default keyboard to some that might track what I write.
It’s even harder when I need to write in different languages and nothing corrects me

Thanks a lot for the reply! My primary point is - no correction is taking place under any situation as far as I can see. Maybe it’s useful to think about this in 3 different ways:

  1. Auto-completion (suggesting the rest of the word as long as you’ve made 0 mistakes so far)
  2. Auto-correct / spellcheck (adding things like apostrophes and fixing minor spelling errors, still suggesting the correct word if you’ve only misspelled very slightly)
  3. Predictive text (suggesting phrases or words based on context of the sentence you’ve already written)

For me, #1 is currently working fine.
#2 doesn’t happen anywhere as far as I’ve seen, but would be very useful and speed up typing
#3 is a feature on many smart phones and doesn’t feel necessary for the Kompakt IMO (also even more relevant to the article you just linked)
