IS the Mudita Kompakt a smartphone?

Understandable argument, but it really truly does depend what apps you’re attempting to sideload onto the Kompakt. As previously stated by Mudita staff, some apps won’t work as well with the eink screen or they were not worked on to go well with the phone.

And say, the banking apps for some people (you may not be one, so this is general example to make a point) is advised not to be side loaded onto the Kompakt. So if a user is looking for that, then, it doesn’t matter in that specific situation if they use a Light phone or Kompakt phone, because in the end, they will have to do their banking on their backup smartphone/iphone (if they have one). Otherwise, do it on the computer. Again, just a specific answer, maybe a banking app isn’t what you need on your phone. I’m just saying…depending on the user’s apps they want to sideload, maybe that user will still have to have 2 phones if they don’t work on the Kompakt either.

So to me, Kompakt isn’t really the solution for certain people. It just all depends what apps they want on their phone. This is why the argument that the Kompakt is better or the Light is better is definitely a controversial opinion because each phone is catered towards individual lifestyles. What may suit one person may not suit another.

From Yota experience, soon will have A5 exp Also from Balmuda Phone 6 inch IPS
Everything works but may look strange on small 800x display with slow refresh. Take it slow on use scroll slower and more and you will do it, whatever is it. Dangerous apps are only shitty APK games and pirated sw. Get a good sw that turns Play Store latest version and install.
Also UPDATING app is on you! And on each update you may loose data and logins.

Smaller form factor is good, finally fits pocket and not rain coat pocket that once could hold ZX Spectrum.

Indeed. No cellphone – just as no automobile or no coffee maker – can be all things to all people.

I agree with this too. The Kompakt is a space between dumb phone and smartphone, the reality is that this is the best version of a minimalist device, and they will capture the right market gong this route, the vast majority of people want a phone that is a tool that does not distract us and Mudita has hit the right note.

It has potential market, but dont understimate those who would love and pay the same or more
for fixed Pure with offline Maps and Signal and surely working low SAR antenna

This is what is making me want to purchase it. I still haven’t backed it yet because I’m unsure if this is the solution. It does make me feel better they have a 14 day guarentee no questions ask return policy, but considering I’m in USA, not sure how expensive shipping is back to Poland. It’s kept me on the fence. I agree that this is a great bridge between a smartphone and dumb phone. I truly believe this type of phone is what is needed for society (including Light Phone).

Since I recently returned PURE I can say:;
a) They do honor it
b) They pay for courier service FedEx in my case
c) They provide return documents, some basic papirology needs to be filled by you
Its fast and good process, I am pleased with it. Everyone should have a peace of mind.
I would backup KOMPAKT if it is shipable to Serbia, which it is not

100 percent, it is not about one being better than the other. Which phone will suit your specific needs thats all that matters

Why did you return it? Was it not usable at all?

It was usable, but I complained on restarting to get signal back and they offered refund.
I accepted it to have money for kompakt ks, only later to discover kompakt cant be sent to Serbia

I want to test the Mudita pure on the Fizz network in Canada, based on the info below would the phone work for calling and texting:

Fizz Mobile supports GSM 850, 1800, and 1900 bands.
Fizz Mobile operates on an LTE-Advanced network. To use Fizz Mobile, your phone must be LTE compatible and configured with LTE network preferences. It must also support the following frequencies:
HSPA 850 MHz: For calls
1700/2100 MHz: For mobile data, also known as AWS or band IV

I believe you should make a sperate thread and try emailing Mudita Support support@mudita.com
This is Kompakt thread, I hijacked it with Pure return, just to explain that return and refund mechanism works.

THIS. I’m bothered that I don’t see them marketing this new one as low-emf, like the Pure. How do they compare in that regard?

Low EMF antenna was a flop - too low reception, and plus certifying phone for all providers failed with Pure, making it half usable for call and SMS.
Thus idea was dropped.
Kompakt is normal Android phone, average even in radiation EMF, nothing like Pure.
Not worse in Android category, nor the best (I believe this has been discussed(
Personally, I hope Pure 2 will be done one day, as it suits Mudita philosophy better and has its own merits,
with well tested and enhanced low SAR antenna. But they might continue the Kompakt avenue as certainly is easier, has wider appeal and thus makes more profit.

@calebsmum It’s good that you’re bringing this up. Just like @anon11367638 stated, Mudita Pure has the lowest SAR of any mobile phone, however, due to that, reception was an issue many users struggles with.
To answer your question- here are the stats for Mudita Kompakt:

Using EU method:
Head (10 g): 0.490 W/kg
Body (10 g): 1.310 W/kg
Limbs(10 g): 3.502 W/kg
US method:
Head (1 g@0mm): 0.97 W/kg
Body-worn (1 g@10mm): 0.78 W/kg
Hotspot (1 g@10mm): 1.17 W/kg
Specific (10 g@0mm): 0.58 W/kg

As a comparison, these are the values for Mudita Pure:
SAR (Head) (over 10g) W/kg - 0,06(W/kg)
SAR (Head) (over 1g) W/kg - 0,07(W/kg)

The confirmed SAR (BODY) values for Mudita Pure are as follows:
The SAR (Body) (over 10g) W/kg - 0.62(W/kg)
SAR (Body) (over 1g) W/kg - 1,13(W/kg)

Just a short explanation of our approach to EMF. With Kompakt we decided not to go that far in experimenting with antennas. We still aimed at the lowest SAR, but this time with a priority not to compromise the signal strength. With that, we end up in the mid SAR regions. Not so amazingly low as with Pure, but still much lower than some mainstream devices (think Iphones for example).

After doing that, we thought what are the other ways to minimize EMF exposure.

And we do two things. First we implemented Offline+ button. Those days even flight modes doesn’t guarantee that some EMF emitters are off in the smartphones. With Offline+ there is guarantee that all radio waves are cut off.

Second thing we did, was minimizing data transmission for the os. As intensity of the data exchange is positively correlated with EMF strength. The eink phone without online video capabilities helps in this naturally. But we ensure that apps we provide also rely on data exchange as little as possible. The best example are our maps. After initial map download they don’t require being online, therefore no data exchange plus they are fully functional in Offline+ mode.

To sum up. We still care about EMF exposure, but we needed to be more creative and approach it from different angles, as we wanted to be absolutely sure that the device excels in the signal strength. Which I believe is the case, but real life reviews from thousands of users (not dozens of our testers) will confirm it or not;-)

I hope I shed some light on the topic :slightly_smiling_face:

Nice! This is how I use my Garmin DriveSmart 65, although I also use its built-in traffic receiver, which here in the USA lets me get real-time traffic information over Hybrid Digital (“HD”) radio broadcasts (by FM radio stations) through its built-in traffic receiver.

It would be wonderful to see Mudita enable the Map app to obtain real-time traffic information over cellular data, for users who are okay with switching their Kompakts OUT of Offline+ mode. (A non-Mudita-endorsed workaround could be to sideload the Magic Earth app, which can provide both real-time traffic information as well as offline usage.)

Thank you so much for doing it this way, I loved the Pure so much but as you know it just did not work reliably in North america, so happy that the Kompakt will , I can finally have a dumbphone I am going to keep for a LONG TIME, very happy I cancelled my Light phone 3 order as the Kompakt is just a better device and DRASTICALLY more affordable than the LP3, thanks to you and the entire team for your hardwork and I know speak for the entire community when I say we are very excited for the Kompakt to drop and thank you for the positive changes all your products have made in our lives. Every day I wake up with the Harmony and I can wait to start my day with my Kompakt while wearing my Mudita shirt!
