I just got a Kompakt and I'm Making This Up as I Go Along

Hello I’m trying to get as much of this phone up and running before transferring my SIM card. I hope this isn’t redundant with other threads but I see other newbies asking questions in this forum so I thought I would try putting mine all in the same place. Purely for my own convenience.

  1. I was able to sideload some APKs through the official Mac app, but some of the ones I installed aren’t working (as expected from the nature of the phone). How do I uninstall the turkeys?
  2. Some of the apps I want to sideload I can only find as .xapk or .apkm – it looks like I need to extract these files? Does anyone know how to do that? I haven’t been able to find a straightforward guide yet. Also, should I be more careful about where I’m downloading APK files from? So far I’ve just been DuckDuckGo-ing “[app name] APK”
  3. Can anyone recommend a good maps app that includes public transit information? I tried OsmAnd but it crashes every time I hit the search button. It is now one of the aforementioned turkeys.
  4. Sometimes I hear a notification sound from the phone, but I have no way of knowing what I’m being notified of. Is there a way to tell? Or is the best way around this just to uninstall those Turkeys?

I think that’s all the information I need right now to get myself to base functionality. I’m really excited about this device!

  1. You can’t uninstall the apps from Mudita Center, you need a Launcher that supports uninstalling. Like Nova Launcher for example or Activity launcher to access a hidden activity (Storage Manager) which lets you uninstall them. Or learn how to do it via ADB.

  2. Mudita center doesn’t support APK bundles installation, so you’ll again a third party launcher to access the hidden File Manager in order to install those.

  3. HereWeGo Maps

  4. Ghost notifications are usually from Duraspeed (battery optimization system utility) that optimizes apps for better battery life. It kinda kills them to stop them from unning in background.

Thank you so much for your quick response gezimos! Would Nova Launcher also support APK bundle extraction? Is Nova Launcher something I can sideload as an APK? Or is it something more complicated? (if you were able to link me to a guide I would be forever grateful)

And oh interesting! So the ghost notification is just the phone telling me that it closed an app? Does this only happen when it closes sideloaded apps? Is there a way to turn this off?

Nova launcher only supports uninstalling, but you can access the Files app with that. But you’ll need to add the apps to your storage using Windows Explorer or OpenMTP (in Mac, Linux).

Easiest solution for you:

Get aurora store, it’s a playstore replacement and has the apps and the ability to uninstall them too. It’s easier than sideloading apks.

From my experience when I disabled it in Developer options it hasn’t sent me any silent notifications.

Don’t do it yet. My phone was fine for 1 month. Now my service is not working with it and I am struggling to reactivate it long enough to change phones. All of my accounts are two factor authentification so I am locked out of everything. Good luck.

Do you have another phone where you can re-activate the SIM card?

Oh don’t worry, I meant a metaphorical volcano. I’m keeping my iPhone safely in a drawer just in case.
