GPS Address Issues

Hi everyone, I’ve been thinking about this over the last few updates and I wanted to see if it’s just my experience or I’m using it wrong but does anyone else have massive issues with the Maps app?

I’ll start by saying it DOES work as long as I can actually get it to recognize where I want to go. My issue isn’t the functionality in terms of the directions or any of that it’s just the actual process of getting it to know what I want. I cannot for the life of me get it to recognize addresses that I enter. I’ve tried all sorts of variations and have settled on using Waze side-loaded for places I’m not planning on going and using the Maps only if I’m able to open a different device, pull up the location that way, and then match it to the physical map on the Kompakt and click the spot so it takes me to the coordinates of the location vs the address.

It’s not just personal house addresses either, it’s ALL addresses for the most part, I have had zero luck actually searching for locations. Are other people having this issue? I’m wondering if it’s because I’m a US user (Michigan based)?

Still loving the device so far but definitely hoping for a maps update at some point.

Edit: I have downloaded all of the maps in my area so I don’t believe that’s the issue.

Have you tried HERE WeGo on your Kompakt?

I did but it would pretty consistently lose my location which left me driving without actual direction for periods which is fine on the expressway but not so fun during city driving, that’s why I’m using Waze now.

Hello, I have had this issue too. The app takes me to the right road, but I can’t get it to enter a specific address.

We talked about this on the forum previously & my hypothesis is that the address in OSM are inverted

In the US the format is followed by
Meanwhile in Europe, many countries, like here in Poland, it’s Followed by the HOUSE number.

This is something our team is aware of & they are looking at how to improve the user experience.

I just used it today and I wanted to say I’m also having problems with the navigation. The “line” which I need to follow on the map works well, but the turn signals are all mixed up every time I use the highway and sometimes in the city too. This was an issue I had from day one of the GPS update.

@Two_Hats Just to make sure I understand what is happening in your case, are you saying that the visual route line is correct, but the instruction logic does not match the actual maneuver?
What are you seeing on the screen?

  • “Turn now” when they should stay straight
  • Exit prompts that come too late or too early
  • Instructions intended for a nearby road rather than the current one

Well, last time the app didn’t recognize I was entering the highway, so the turn signs were still telling me to enter the highway when I was already on it. I’m not 100% sure about what the arrows were saying after that because I wasn’t following them. The visual route line was correct, so I knew I just had to follow it. I think the problem is not that the arrows are wrong, but they somehow get delayed and do not match the visual route line.

A lot of these minimal phones rely heavily on A-GPS (Assisted GPS) to get a lock quickly. If you aren’t connected to a strong data network, it sometimes defaults to the nearest cell tower location, which can be miles off. Have you tried standing in a clear open space for a full 5-10 minutes? Sometimes these chips just need a ‘cold start’ to actually find the satellites without the network’s help.

I have the same problem with searching in the map. When searching for a store, my Kompakt will often show them in no specific order. This makes it hard to find the correct one, since the results list doesn’t show any part of the address for each store, other than the store’s name, e.g. “Co-op Food”. It would be so helpful if the results list showed the first line of each result’s address, as well.

Also, I’ve noticed some labelling mistakes in the maps app. For instance, the label for the city Nottingham (UK) has a long note about some internal edits to city’s node, which obscures the map. Is there any way to suggest corrections?

It looks like the GPS knows where I am, because the dot on the map follows me closely. The arrows are just not in sync with the visual map.

Also, it would be great if we could see the name of the exit we have to take on the highway.

Double-check if your case is not as mine was - the top arrow is the upcoming action, the lower one is the next one. It was confusing me a lot.

No, I haven’t had problems searching for addresses in the US. The maps app will display the house number after the street name, but searching by house number first still finds the correct house. I wonder what’s different between yours and mine?
