Please consider adding an option to customize the device name that is broadcast over Bluetooth.
At work, I prefer to keep a low profile and avoid drawing attention to the specific devices I’m using. Most phones allow users to rename the Bluetooth device to something generic, such as “Phone” or “Cell Phone.” However, when “Kompakt” is displayed, it makes the device immediately identifiable.
I hope this is a simple feature to implement, as it would provide users with more privacy and flexibility.
Has anyone else run into this issue? I’d be interested to hear whether others would find this feature useful as well.
To change your Mudita Kompakt’s Bluetooth broadcast name:
Sideload a custom launcher: The easiest way to bypass default Android restrictions on the Kompakt is to sideload a text-based, E-Ink-friendly alternative launcher like inkOS or Minimo Launcher via the Mudita Center. [1, 2]
Access full system settings: Once you have a third-party launcher or alternative app drawer installed, you can access the deeper system preferences that are typically hidden by the stock Mudita user interface. [1]
Change the device name: Navigate to Settings > About Phone > Device Name and enter your desired name. This name will now be broadcast to other Bluetooth devices
My device running MuditaOS K 1.5.0 doesn’t have menu options you describe. I have “About” instead of “About this phone”. Under “About”, I don’t have “Device name” at all. There is “Device model” but it is not editable.
It doesn’t have that option because that comment from that user is AI generated.
AI suggests that because that works on pretty much any other AOSP phone, just Mudita has disabled the ability to edit the device/bluetooth name. It’s a standard AOSP feature.
If you search “Device name” in developer options both the option to edit the bluetooth name/device name appear but they’re broken (settings will crash if you try to open it).
No it actually resets the name back to “Kompakt” on restart.
I know users on this forum ask for all kinds of crap. But fixing the broken bluetooth/device name editor should be a priority. Not something “to be considered” by the team.
And I repeat this is as stock AOSP function, nothing to code, simply style the menus, so they just have to unbreak what they broke.
Leave it the default value, hope for a future version fix the Kompakt as an ID this is obscure enough for me. Yes, I apologize the details I provided were not a solution, sorry. There are bigger fish to fry with the Mudita OS.
