Chess+ – a community fork with local 2-player (pass-and-play) mode

I made a small fork of Mudita’s open-source Kompakt Chess app that adds an in-person 2-player mode, for when you want to play a friend/family member on one device.

What’s new:

  • A 1 Player / 2 Players toggle at the top of the New Game screen. Picking 2 Players hides the options that don’t apply (Move Suggestions, Difficulty, Player Color) — both in the setup screen and the in-game pause menu.
  • Board stays in a fixed layout for 2-player games (White at the bottom, Black at the top), like a real board sitting between two people.
  • Renamed to Chess+ with its own package ID, so it installs alongside the stock Chess app — no need to uninstall anything, and no data from your existing app is touched.

Honestly hope they just take the code and implement it into their official release. :smiley:
My partner and I play 2 player chess on the kompakt almost every time we go out to dinner. It’s fun.

when i installed chess+ and opened it, immediately i noticed that some of the buttons and interface was missing. sometimes the text was floating and other times it was in a bubble, but that wasnt a huge deal. however, when i tried using the two player function, i noticed there was no option to flip the board. this is very inconvinient because usually its hard for me to think without the pieces being on my side. yes, you can argue that its for making sure that the screen wont explode (lol) when you keep flipping it, but i believe it should at least be an option. the app is good, but the UI could be cleaner and the 2 player function flippable. good app tho!

Thanks for speaking up! I had not pushed the release that had the fixes in for these display bugs, so I was running it fine on my MK but everyone else wasn’t!
On the other hand, I actually tried having a board-flipping function, but it really is just too crazy on the eink display for my tastes. When my wife and I play, we place it between us and don’t move it, works great.
