Hi - I am trying to like my Kompakt, but there continue to be some basic functions that don’t work. One of these issues is that I am trying to connect to wifi at the coworking space where I work. I must select various options in order for the wifi to work, but I don’t have the ability to change these options on the kompakt. Here are the settings and which one I cannot change:
EAP Method - PEAP (No change necessary)
Phase 2 Authentification - MSCHAPV2 (No change necessary)
CA certificate - Use System Certificates (MUST BE ABLE TO CHANGE TO “Do Not Validate”)
All other settings are fine, but because I cannot change the CA Certificate setting, I cannot access my work wifi, which is an issue.
@chrussellvt Thank you for sharing this with us, and for taking the time to outline the exact Wi-Fi configuration you’re dealing with. I am going to ask our team about this because I’ve never experienced this before.
I agree certificate validation disabling is a common thing in many IEEE 802.1X based networks, wired or wireless, since not many are keen to pay for a certificate from a trusted CA (ie. recognized by the client device without having to add the self-signed cert issuer to the list of trusted CAs).
BTW no cert validation might become impossible in the next months or years, the market seems to drive away from PEAP (it’s already becoming a pain on Windows 11) and alongside security concerns of storing corp credentials on BYOD devices, EAP-TLS might become a necessity. Then, certificates must be well done or a guest network for personal devices will have to get provisioned.
Fun fact, 802.1X is about credentials validation, it gives no greater security for the traffic itself as long as we’re talking about WPA2.
I followed up with our team on this & currently KOMPAKT does not support the specific configuration that you’re trying to use, but it’s on the radar because others have reported this as well.
