I’ve run into another issue: when I try to add songs to a playlist, I can only do so from within the player itself or from the “Songs” section. Long-pressing on songs elsewhere does give me the “Add to playlist” option, but the song doesn’t actually get added to any playlist. Is this something worth looking into, @davidray?

Removing the overlay should be quite simple (I haven’t tested these steps because I never acted the overlay).

Go to Settings → Accessiblity. Then disable “CalmMusic Helper.” I think the helper is the overlay (if I’m wrong, I have no idea what the “Helper” is).

Thank you! I chose to reinstall the APK and did not give the overlay permission at first boot. No issue now

I also have this issue - all my music is on the SD card.

Looks like this app is currently broken, possibly due to the 1.5 OSK update. Unable to stream music from youtube. When it works its great!

I second this, I’ve also found that it won’t stream music from YouTube since updating to OSK 1.5.
I’ve also noticed, before it stopped working, that it wouldn’t play the songs from an album in the correct order. Upon opening the album, it would show an apparently random order, even with shuffle disabled.

Hi David,

I can now remove songs with the delete button, but now it doesn’t let me stream and download music. I can search songs and then when I hit the song that I want to listen to, it freezes and the song remains at 0:00 and doesn’t load anything. Not sure if this is a weird glitch. I tried with data and internet connection, but unfortunately it didn’t do the trick. I had also tried to redownload the app. Could you please trouble shoot this? Love the app though.

I love the interface - thank you for your thoughtful design. One piece of feedback is that I wish that albums were sorted a little differently in the album view. If there are multiple artists on an album, then the album is listed several times under each artist, whereas AIMP (not as nice of an interface for eink) displays the whole album even with multiple artists.

Hi, the app looks great, I have installed it on my Mudita but… streaming is not working. I search for any song, click on it, the app says “playing” but it is not playing. The time is 0:00 all the time. I have reinstalled it again, but the same issue. Am I doing sth wrong?

You’re not doing anything wrong. YouTube recently made some breaking changes for any 3rd party streamers. I’m not sure yet if I will continue to support the feature in future updates to this particular app. See my next post for more info.

Love the interface, but is there an easy way to mass-generate a playlist (as opposed to selecting each song one at a time)? I’d like to be able to add entire albums or artists to a playlist.

I have created a pull request in your repository which fixes the Youtube streaming issue. I can imagine it won’t get merged as you have the focus now on the other applications (which I am really excited for!).

I sadly can’t update his repo with the APK of the app, but I have provided one on my repository which I cannot seem to post? its on github berendsliedrecht/CalmMusic

I really enjoy the simplicity of this app, and it would be a shame to let it go to waste

Love the UI, would love to see Subsonic/Navidrome server support added. It would fit into the privacy ethos of the app as you can host your own music server locally which the app would sync from and ideally cache playlists offline for use while out and about.

coming from spotify, this is an amazing app. the ui is extremely clean and works great for the kompakt, and i also love how the music is free. the app contains playlist, and for those who still use it, a radio (wired headphones required). even though you cant queue songs, this is one of my favourite music players, and i would highly recommend this to anyone looking for a music player (even outside of the kompakt community!).

also beta 10 is currently not working, but @berendcsliedrecht fixed the issue and now the app works great. Releases · berendsliedrecht/CalmMusic · GitHub

Hi davidray,

CalmMusic has honestly become my favorite app on the Kompakt - really solid local player, thanks for building it.

I’d like to request a feature: support for importing an existing .m3u playlist file, rather than having to recreate playlists manually track by track inside the app. I already have playlists set up on my PC, so re-adding each song by hand is a bit of a hassle.

Could this be added as part of the local library scan - reading .m3u files, matching the entries to songs already in the library, and creating the playlist automatically?

Thank you for posting the “beta 11” update link, which fixed the YouTube streaming issue! Now it’s working! I love this app. I wish I could download an entire album with a click, rather than having to go into each song and download it, but that’s a minor annoyance in an otherwise great app.

I have done a new release fixing some of the issues mentioned in the thread.

If there are some other issues that need fixing, and I have the time, I could take a look.

Changelog:

You can now download a whole album in one go with the download button on an album page. Songs you already have are skipped, so nothing gets downloaded twice.

You can edit your music: long-press a song to change its title or artist, and use the pencil icon on an album page to rename the album or change the album artist.

Other improvements:

YouTube streaming and downloads work again
The artist list is cleaner: guest artists and empty artists no longer show up
Opening an artist now shows their albums first
Deleting a song now really deletes it
The downloads screen can scroll
Buttons have a cleaner outlined look
Switching between tabs is faster
