Blog: Mudita Kompakt & Embracing Mindfulness in the Digital Age

I hope there is an OPTION to add a web browser. I am assuming that Mudita Kompakt will have by tied to Mudita Center, so there could be options to download apps you want and remove the ones you don’t want.

Omg I still have a few of mine too! the Blackberry Q10 was the best ever made. Perfect size and ahead of its time with the gesture based os. Peak and hub are so awesome. The Kompakt size and shape remind me of this. I love it.

Yes this would be a perfect solution for people who can’t control themselves with a broswer LOL

Yes this exactly. I feel like if you don’t want much capability in a device, the Pure is perfect the device for you. It’s very basic text, and calls. VOILA!

No interested in a browser. Once you put a browser on a phone its a smartphone. People want to have their cake and eat it too. If you want smart phone functionality buy a smart phone. I am in a aruba now on vacation and all I see around me is people staring at phones. At dinner with their kids all glued to their screens, on apps, browsers not in the moment with their family.

As I remarked earlier, it was already a smartphone once a camera was added. Even the Light Phone III is a smartphone. If you wish to stay in the moment, you shouldn’t need a camera either. Distractions are subjective.

I just can’t agree with this, its a browser. What people choose to do, is what people choose to do. I’m with you completely on the need to go minimal, to be more present in the now, but that’s something they need to re-evaluate with themselves. Your not going to change that by not putting a browser on one small device. There is a level of self control needed here. I do love the idea of going minimal, but without a browser how can I check my flight information? Its all digital today. I’m totally cool with all social media going and major distractions. I love the privacy OS on Kompakt. But as Gmahale said it was already a smart phone when the camera was added. Some technology really can be helpful.

Camera and browser are not the same thing not even close

For someone without self-control, they are. A minimalist phone needs neither. For that matter, even a touchscreen is not needed.

The camera on the LP3 is not a smartphone camera its for taking photos for useful things…not taking a pic of your food any posting it to instagram lol

A person without self-control will anyway not buy such phones. Content will not be as appealing on the black-and-white display. The browser on the other hand can be used for email, online banking and to look for useful information.

Do not agree that content would not be as appealing. Someone that has a porn addiction would access it on a browser on a e-ink screen. What does it matter what the screen looks like. Browser should never be on a dumb phone PERIOD. Light phone has a directory on it which is amazing. You look up what you need like a store, its address what time it is open etc. thats it

If content could be appealing on a black-and-white display, it should be possible to take pictures and browse through them. Moreover, these could be transferred to another device and posted on social media. Even a camera has no place on a minimalist phone then. If one has no self-control, therapy could be more helpful than tweaking a phone. To give you an analogy, painkillers are meant to relieve pain. We do not stop prescribing them just because some persons could get addicted.

Speaking of the directory function, what prevents us from looking up information on a computer and making a note of it before stepping out? We are concerned about privacy online. How about patience and presence of mind? Could we not be a bit more organised instead of making plans on the fly?

You should check out reviews of devices with e-ink displays. The time it takes to refresh the display degrades the experience for video.

The dumb phone available from Mudita is called the Pure. It has no browser and is perfect for you. Not really sure why your comment went to “porn addiction” but your not going to cure your “people glued to their smartphone rage” by putting a simple browser on a minimal phone. Browser on Kompakt is an absolute must. So is GPS. Gmahale said it best, the people glued to their phones are not buying device like this. Its for the people like us that are more present and care. The issue you have is about self control. I could care less about social media. I would like a simple but useful device, but when I travel, I need to be able to check my flight information. I also LOVE LOVE that Kompakt has a Ereader built in. That already makes it more of a smart phone. Some tech can be useful. If it wasn’t a company like Mudita wouldn’t even exist.

For an addict It would not make much of a difference

Browser on the Kompakt is not an absolute must. lol You want a browser get a smartphone. Kompakt will not have a browser on it …BOOK IT…would go against Mudita philosophy

In this world you have to make plans on the fly a lot, yes you can look things up ahead of time, but the Light phone directory app is an amazing alternative to a browser where you are using a TOOL then gets you key information you need now without getting sucked into a browser. If my some chance the Kompakt has a browser I am DONE with Mudita 100 percent. I am actually still considering it , but if it has a browser no chance in hell I buy it

We’ll have to wait a few weeks to know what apps are supported. If it does not have a browser, it will be nothing more than an expensive version of the Pure. I for one will find it difficult to justify paying hundreds of euros for a device only for calls and messages. A camera is not needed to note information and an e-book reader does not have to fit in a pocket. If a browser and other apps are indeed against their philosophy, I will have to look elsewhere.
