A Particular WiFi Hotspot Settings Not Available?

Hi, I’m trying to connect an old Nintendo Wii that only supports 2.4GHz band and 802.11b/g channel bandwith. Would it be possible to add these settings in the Mudita Kompakt hotspot settings? I can change the band to 2.4GHz on my laptop, but not the channel bandwith.

I tried enabling the “extend compatibility”, changing the security to WPA2-Personal, and disabling “Turn off hotspot automatically” but that didn’t work.

Hi @sleepbyslowdive, I consulted your inquiry with our technical team and here is their response:

To answer your question directly: adding a manual setting for older Wi-Fi channels is unfortunately not a simple update. Other modern Android phones also do not offer a specific toggle to force these older Wi-Fi standards.
Here is a look at what is happening and why the Wii is rejecting the connection:

The Age Gap in Wi-Fi Technology
The Nintendo Wii was released in 2006 and uses very old Wi-Fi standards (802.11b/g). The Mudita Kompakt, like all modern mobile devices, is built on a newer operating system. Even when you switch the phone to 2.4GHz and lower the security to WPA2-Personal, modern smartphones still use newer broadcast methods and mandatory background security features.
Forcing a connection to use the legacy b/g standard usually requires advanced configuration on the receiving device itself. For example, on a Windows computer, you can sometimes go into the advanced network card settings to force the system to use the b/g standard. However, on a closed system like the Nintendo console, this kind of configuration is likely not possible. The Wii simply does not understand the modern signals coming from the phone and will refuse to connect.
Because modern mobile systems have phased out support for those older Wi-Fi formats across the board, adding a setting for them is not something we can patch quickly.

A Potential Workaround
In the meantime, the most reliable way to get your Wii online using your Kompakt’s cellular data is to use a computer or an older router as a middleman:

  • Connect your Mudita Kompakt to a laptop or PC using a USB cable and enable USB Tethering in your phone’s network settings.

  • From there, you can use your computer to share that internet connection over Wi-Fi. If you are using a Windows PC, you may be able to use those advanced network card configurations mentioned above to broadcast the exact legacy signal the Wii needs.
