From slaves harvesting rare earth minerals to the production of PCB’s using carcinogenic materials, there are many companies that are looking to address the supply chain in the manufacturing of their phones to make a final product that is healthier for everyone involved.
I am enthusiastic about your product and would like to know if this is another element of mudita that I can be confident about. What can you tell us about your supply chain and the sustainability of your product?
I’m really interested to hear about this too - all of the aspects seem to be really well-considered, so I would assume the materials for construction would be too, but I haven’t seen anything describing what it’s made of other than the E ink.
Hi, thank you for your comments. I understand your concerns and I agree that this is an important topic. We try hard to have control over all aspects of the supply chain, wherever it’s possible for such a small company like Mudita. Since we are revealing a list of all components together with the launch of our Kickstarter campaign we will do our best to add all necessary information about materials sourcing soon.
@Brooke_Feely @pup we compiled a list of suppliers and links to their policies in one place so it’s easier to track it:
Thank you for your patience!
Cheers,
Lukasz
Hey guys, I noticed that the construction material for the Mudita Pure is still in test. On the topic of sustainability and in line with your manifesto, maybe you would consider bamboo fibre composite as a possible option. Randomly I bought a lunch box made of it recently, it is light weight, waterproof, strong, shock resistance can be printed onto and while not entirely environmentally friendly, offers a real alternative to plastic. It is smooth, but has a natural texture to it, I think it would really compliment your product in a variety of ways. https://publications.waset.org/9998043/pdf
Hi @alanj, thank you for your comment. We will investigate the material that you suggested.
There were many interesting materials, but we have pretty rigorous requirements. It needs to be easily injected (injection molding process) and allow us to achieve 0.1 mm accuracy.
Cheers,
Lukasz
Hi @alanj, the bamboo material seems awesome! As any other natural-based material would be. This would complement the Mudita phone very well as I’m all in for reducing the use of plastics. Indeed, if technically possible as Lukasz mentions.
Hi @wolfie, wouldn’t it be cool, I believe aswell on further investigation that it is injectible to the accuracy Lukasz mentioned.
@lukasz.anwajler i found the best resources in the forum. Thank you for this usefull information
